Lots of new pant silhouettes trending as we head into end of summer and early fall, led by the fashion-forward balloon style that has been popping up everywhere. Something fun to try. I loved this butter yellow linen style from Faithfull (seen above), especially as styled here by Vera Vanerp. My size sleuthing suggests these might be a good fit for us petites; see fellow petite Michaela in them here! Julia Berolzheimer recently styled a couple of pairs while on her summer vacation in interesting ways — see here and here. Balloon Pant Nanotrend.
I think the easiest place to start is to look for this silhouette for a beach/lounge situation, where things feel loose and airy and playful anyway. I love these ones from Farm Rio in either shells or floral. The price is right for a trend to test, too. Other chic finds below —
01. The patterned Doens.
02. These black eyelet Le Bops (also available in white) — I ordered these to try. I figure black is an easy and forgiving medium. I was torn between those and these crepe Ref ones. Similar in ethos, and you can style with a black tank for one simple, streamlined look.
03. These lace-trim SEAs.
04. These butter-yellow linens (seen above).
05. These striped ankle-cinched ones from Chan Luu! (Or these similar ones in all black from Ulla J.)
06. Zimmermann is always a cool fit!
As for styling, I’d layer over a swimsuit or pair with a really simple slim-fit tank/tee and a pair of flip flops. Maybe a big sun hat. The flip flops and tank communicate ease/simplicity for a style that’s pretty advanced and are good foils.
Other Bold Pant Silhouettes and Styles in Taffeta, Cropped, and Barrel Leg.
Other trend-forward silhouettes, some of which we’ve covered exactly:
+Anything in taffeta, but especially the barrel styles from Chan Luu (more sizes and colors here) and Donni (recently restocked but selling fast).
+Rag + Bone’s newest taffeta silhouette (“the Claire”) has a clever ankle cinching feature that enables you to nail both a balloon style AND the taffeta trend in one go (or you can wear them straight).
+If taffeta and a barrel leg feel like too much, Chan Luu also has a straighter-leg silhouette.
Not taffeta, but some cropped silhouettes that came out this summer that intrigued:
+La Ligne’s new CROPPED Colby (only a handful left at La Ligne itself, but if you can get some there, use code MAGPIE10 for a little price break). Great for petites, also cool for taller gals looking for a different silhouette.
+Probably my most worn pant this summer — Leset’s Kyoto! A great lightweight poplin that holds its structure and a fantastic body-skimming silhouette with the slightest barrel shape to them. Just super cool. Pistola’s Theo is the closest look for less I’ve found (I own in the pink), but they’re low in stock everywhere — a couple of extra sizes here and here. J. Crew’s Luna also promises a similar vibe.
+More of a year-in-year-out classic, linen pull-on pants have been super popular among Magpies this summer, especially in Rag + Bone’s Atlas take (the paracord drawstring waist feels very on-tone), but Pistola released a similar look for less in cotton here (note the paracord drawstring). Magpies have also been flocking to these linen pull-ons by Buck Mason.
+Modern take on the Adidas pants of our youth: these Donni linens. I saw them styled all over the place this summer and they can be CHIC. Pistola has a good look for less here.
+Finally, of course, the Ruti pull-on pants! I can’t rave enough about these. Insanely comfortable and the drape/fit is elite. Start with the black and then you’ll find yourself contemplating additional colors. Use code JEN15.
Be bold!! Fashion is meant to be fun. Something to be un-precious with.
P.S. Seven top sellers among Magpies this summer.
