Six Left-of-Center Things I Ordered for Spring.

By: Jen Shoop

Six items I ordered that feel a little different, a bit fashion-forward, for spring —

Barrel pants and bandana scarves for spring 2026

01. Leset Kyoto Pants. I got these in the lemon zest color (I think they read a little more pastel IRL, based on this photo), but was very tempted by that dusty pink and also by the bold green? A friend of mine said that these are all over the streets of NYC, sort of like this year’s version of “The Hamptons Pant” (the Nili Lotan Shon pant) from a few years back. I absolutely love a loose-fit utility pant for long workdays at my desk (currently wearing these, which are 20% off in this chic pink/sand color right now) and these just felt different and interesting for summer. Apparently colors sell through really quickly. Kaia Gerber was spotted in their cobalt blue pair and they’ve been out of stock for ages because of it. (Cobalt blue is really trending!) Marine Layer has a pair of pull-on poplin barrel pants that deliver a similar look for $58 — but a little less darting/seaming on the leg.

02. Kujten Small Cashmere Bandana Scarf. The Barbie doll pink sold me — fun, slightly camp/kitsch, different — and I like the petite size to wear just around the neckline, like a true bandana. I plan to wear this a white tee and jeans or olive green utility pants! You can get the look for less ($40!) here — I ordered this to try as well — and if you like the style but want something airier for warming weather: try this under $100 find, or AYR’s new silk bandana! (The colors are exquisite.)

03. Leset Cobalt Blue Tee. I am loving colorful tees for this season. It started with this SoldOut NYC tee in the sky blue (now sold out, but I’m monitoring for a restock) and I just added this cobalt blue Margo to my closet while on sale at Shopbop (20% off with code SPRING20). I really like the look of a colorful tee with go-to denim and a big, bold necklace or a bandana scarf to finish it off. Other colorful tee options I love: this butter yellow and this peony pink. Look for less: J. Crew (in the blue or butter yellow — the blue is very similar to SoldOut!) or this Uniqlo in that perfect pink.

04. Donni Taffeta Pants (seen above in watermelon pink). These are similar to the Kyoto pants but in taffeta! I’ve written a lot about these, but they are just SO FUN, and I keep pulling them out and finding different ways to style. Love it with a boxy tee and a chunky knit, with an oversized white button-down and fab flats, with a cashmere cardigan…! They do all the talking and feel so fresh and relevant. Ref has a similar vibe for less.

05. Destree Midi Dress. I am transfixed by this brand — the details, the silhouettes, the pocket shapes! I snagged this dress in the denim before it sold out, but still available in a linen here as well as a fantastic brown color. What caught me was the long, lean line and the way they showed it styled over a white button down, or on its own. So fabulous. It brought to mind some of the suiting in old movies — like something Grace Kelley or a Hitchcock heroine might wear — and I loved the tailoring. I took an XS and it just fits — like a glove. If at all in question, I’d go a size up.

06. Altuzarra Clutch. I’ve mentioned this dozens of times over the past few years, but somehow, I never see Altuzarra out in the wild and it is JUST SO GOOD. The quality, the shapes, the colors! I think this is my third Altuzarra bag, and I never get bored of them; wear them season after season. I thought the shape of this clutch was exquisite, and unlike anything I had!

Something I’m eyeing next: the Suzie Kondi Tosk pants and sweatshirt. These photos of Suzie herself in them sold me! Love the unusual pant shape, and even like the way it looks with this retro heel:

Finally, on the styling front, I was obsessed with these behind-the-scenes film snaps by the founder of Leset on a recent photo shoot:

Leset pointelle cardigan

The styling and color story! So good — the seaglass green, the mix of textures, the “I just woke up like this”?! I was captivated and I actually have been contemplating layering tees and cardigans in a similar way because of this photo.

What are you eyeing and buying for the season ahead? Anything out of character? If you’re feeling as though you can’t pull these styles off — balance them with something classic, like a cashmere crewneck or a crisp white button-down or a pair of Chanel flats. And, mainly, remember that fashion is something to be un-precious with! Try! See how it looks! Have fun!
