Red fox crossing (vulpes vulpes!)
The bacon and biscuit house
Goldfinch corner
Magnolia mother
Misty slope and gentle greensward (a.k.a. The Keats Manse)
Chapel creek
Golden stand
Moss mountain
The half-mile crucible
These are the self-forged landmarks on my three-mile running circuit in suburban Maryland.
Look, anything can be poetry.
The point is to build a creative literacy with your everyday world, to name what you love and ironize what you don’t.
Let the lapland become lyrics, turn the neighborhood into notes,
do what you must
to get to the musical heartbeat of things.

+Three annotations: 1) Re: goldfinch corner. I have twice — twice! — run by one particular driveway and dispelled a charm of goldfinch! I am trying not to read any misfortune into that repeat happening. (C.f. charm and loveliness!). 2) Re: chapel creek: A tiny trickle of crick that runs beneath a small overpass (barely a car-length long) featuring beautiful archwork towards the end of my circuit. Every time I run it, the arches remind me of church windows and stained glass. One time I stopped to take a closer look and observed the delicate webwork of a spider spread across the intrados. I thought, some wise lady was in the pews before me. 3) Re: red fox crossing. Whenever I see a fox, which is not uncommon, I reflexively call out vulpes vulpes — my favorite Latin/scientific name I’ve ever come across. (Why the repetition? They’re just that foxy.)

+Books we love reading in fall.
Shopping Break.
+Sezane released a spectacular winter collection yesterday, and it includes a RED version of our beloved fringe coat, this knit capelet to layer over a sweater (or denim shirt – would look fab with denim!), this fabulous fringed skirt, and my little sweater vest situation (I own in green, now available in other colors).
+The latter looks fabulous layered over a button-down with dark wash denim.
+This burgundy jelly phone case was just restocked! I know a lot of you ordered this earlier this season (is it our new Magpie secret handshake?) and several were sad it sold through. They also have fun holiday ones that skew more gen-z and younger — good gift for a teen niece / daughter.
+Does anyone have a rec for a lip liner that actually stays? I really love using lip liner but it feels like it disappears on the underside an hour. I was doing a little research and heard good things about this “6h full circle lip liner.” Has anyone tried? Related: who has a lip stain she loves? I need help with lip color staying power!
+Of the holiday pieces I’ve shared so far, this copper velvet dress (works for Thanksgiving and Christmas) and this navy silk dupioni top have been THE most popular by a landslide — and both are under $200.
+These chic sweater tees were just marked down to under $120! Perfect for styling with slip skirts (<<these are affordable, come in great colors, and have a perfect silhouette/drape). An easy, polished, chic evening look.
+My new writing desk just arrived and I swapped out the dark blue patterned rug for this lighter wool one. Has such a luxe, plush feel underfoot and brightens the whole space.
+Tartan runner for the kitchen this season! (Use code JEN).
+Holiday flavor ice cream bundle that ships free. GREAT hostess / thank you / family gift idea.
+Another really cool statement fleece for fall to pair with brown leggings or jeans.
+All my Shopbop hearts here — constantly updating this edit! Spent time yesterday morning in bed doing just this! Lots of beautiful new arrivals.
+How chic is this: pearl shoe clips to transform your run of the mill black pumps or flats into something festive? The pearls are Chanel vibes!
+Currently wearing this generously-sized mockneck sweatshirt and cannot underscore how perfect it is. Length covers the rear and it’s got this cool slouchy silhouette. Like a big hug! I also got my paws on their new cropped-length fleece in ivory. Love that it hits at hip.
+Love the unexpected colors in this fair isle.
+A GORGEOUS scalloped mirror at a great price.
+Love a flocked tree…
