The Negative Whipped Track Pants I Can’t Stop Wearing —

By: Jen Shoop

Running a dedicated post to our favorite whipped track pants from Negative, as I’ve had a steady trickle of questions about the sizing, length, and use cases for these loungewear elites, as well as whether to start with the whipped set or the waffle-knit collection.

Notes on the Negative Whipped Loungewear Collection.

The whipped track pants were the first lounge item I ever ordered from Negative, though I’ve been a devotee of their boyshorts (THE BEST UNDERWEAR FOR SLEEPING) for a long time, and I absolutely adore them. They are ultra-soft and stretchy, and it’s almost like wearing nothing at all. The pants barely skim your body in the best way. These are pants you can sleep in, recover in, “wuther” in (for those of us still coming down from the high of Jacob Elordi smashing a chair for kindling as Heathcliff). I own these pants in sand, navy, and black. Notes on sizing and fit:

+Go up a size in the pants. I fit into the XS but I find the elastic at the waist the tiniest bit annoying. I prefer the looser size of the S. (And I’m a very true XS.) Life is too short for uncomfortable pajamas!

+These are on the sexy side of loungewear — slightly sheer, and though they are loose-fit, they do hug and reveal the silhouette! I might advise black or navy if you want to wear in mixed company. Otherwise, just note that my husband refers to these as my “sexy pajamas.”

+I like to wear the pants with the matching top, which is also on the sexy side — a pretty deep-v, and not all the buttons shown on the model are functional, i.e., the top few don’t even button. I usually layer over a bralette like this. I take my true size (XS) in the top, but will note it’s very fitted and I’m at my most petite up top — probably more of an XXS up top and an XS on bottom in general. Negative also has a crewneck (less revealing!) you might consider, but I’ve not yet dabbled!

+The pants run very long on us petites. I am 5’0 and they definitely puddle on the floor by a good length. I don’t mind this since I am almost always wearing at home, during wind-down time, and not, like, doing chores and walking down the street in these. These are very much “I’m home and in my bedroom or unwinding with a glass of wine and TV” pants. They recently released a cropped version of the pants that might be worth considering, but those are only available in limited colors.

+I have not found that these shrink much (if at all) in the wash.

+Back to the underwear from this collection — these will ruin you for all other underwear. I’ve slowly swapped out all my other sleeping underwear for these. So soft, with no elastic that cuts in anywhere, perfect amount of coverage, my ideal rise, and just pretty! Take your true size in these — I take an XS. They recently released these in a three pack so you can get a little discount. I just ordered a second set of them this week so now I absolutely can go a full 10 days without having to resort to less preferred pairs/brands. I usually do laundry once a week but every now and then, life gets in the way, and I stretch. For example, I didn’t have time to do my laundry (only my kids’!) this weekend when Emory fractured her ankle, and I was furious when I realized I’d run through all my Negative sleeping underwear and had to wear my less-than pairs. As a reward for some tough mom days there, I treated myself to a final new set! Problem sovled.

Notes on the Negative Waffle Collection.

Even though I speak exclusively in exclamation points about the whipped series, I will say that if you’re looking for a more versatile investment, the waffle jogger set is where its at. The whipped set is perfect, as I mentioned, for solo time, evening hours, distracting your husband, etc. But the waffle set can be worn in mixed company (less revealing), as separates (I love the waffle pullover with jeans and a tee, or as a top layer with athletic wear), and even out of the house — this is really more of a sweat suit whereas the whipped set feels more like lingerie and sleepwear. My sister and her wife wear these joggers a ton. When they visited us over the holidays, my sister-in-law came home from and outing and said: “OK, we’ve been in hard pants too long. Let’s change into our Negatives.” Hard pants!!! LOL.

Some notes:

+These are more petite friendly in general because of the cuff — even though I’m 5’0, they don’t awkwardly bunch up around the knee and look really nice on the leg. However, they also have a cropped, straighter-leg style that would be good for petites.

+I find these run TTS (both top and bottom) but do shrink a tiny bit in the wash.

+Whereas I really prefer the whipped set worn as a pair/together (the set looks so dreamy, chic, sexy!), I don’t mind splitting the waffle set up. Sometimes I just wear the joggers on their own with a tee, and, as I mentioned, the pullover is a go-to with jeans and athleisure.

+I prefer the waffle bralette to the whipped bralette. I’m fairly flat, and the waffle material provides a little more structure/lift. I also really like the neckline on it. I can even wear this beneath a sweater/tee/etc — not just for lounge — whereas I find the whipped bralettes provide absolutely no support of any kind. They’re very comfortable, don’t get me wrong, but I only ever wear them if I’m wearing a very loose tunic-type dress.

+Negative JUST released this month a new set in a brushed modal scuba that I will probably eventually purchase.

If you have any other questions, feel free to drop in the comments below!

Other products I absolutely love and consider best-in-class, many of which are heavily hyped on the Internet and about which I was initially very skeptical:

Hatch Restore — dramatically improved my sleep habits

Bombas socks — the only sock that actually hugs my tiny pixie feet with no sad heel droop/bulge/overhang situation

The Dyson hair-blow-dryer (on sale at time of writing)

The Yves Durif vented brush

AYR early morning tee (sort of a swiss army knife clothing article — part tee, part sweatshirt, can work with athletic wear, jeans, lounge, shorts, pants)

Vuori all-the-feels leggings (hallelujah — the most comfortable legging that comes in a petite inseam!)

Eby relief bra — most comfortable and supportive everyday bra; looks great under anything

Dorsey Riviere necklace — looks just like the real thing; infinitely versatile

Rothy’s clogs — legitimately live in these; they feel like a massage on the foot

La Ligne sweaters (especially the mini marin — more on that here)

Undo hair clips — in BIFL (buy it for life) territory

More “BIFL” items here (comments are FANTASTIC)

P.S. Things that are, regrettably, worth it.

P.P.S. The best jeans for petites.

P.P.P.S. How do you plan a great vacation?

Negative has RUINED me for other loungewear, I ordered the whipped set in the espresso color way and wanted to wear it exclusively from the moment I got it. I have since ordered a few more sets and just love them. I also bough the crewnecks in black and sand to wear as base layers this winter under sweaters (even skiing) and they’ve been amazing. It’s so expensive but truly a RWI item.

GREAT Post! Unrelated question. Lake is having a sale on PJs/longe sets. What size do you take there? Thanks!
