The Best Jeans For Petites.

By: Jen Shoop

I know from years of writing this blog that a) there are a lot of petite women amongst the Magpie community, and b) we all agree that finding well-fitting jeans is a big obstacle. There are some styles that will never work on us because — even if we crop the hems — the knees are too low or the rise is too high. Over the years, I’ve slowly collected a range of petite-friendly jeans that I love and that don’t need tailoring; I’ve shared them here and there but wanted to organize them in one place.

The Best Everyday Jeans for Petites.

My most-worn, day-in-and-day-out jeans are the Agolde Riley crops, Mother Half Pipes, Rag+Bone Sofies, and Rag + Bone Logans. I own the Agoldes in a few washes and I usually order one size up for a looser, more broken-in feel. I personally think Agolde makes the most comfortable, lived-in jeans out there. They really soften with wear and hold up beautifully. The Mothers (run TTS) feel deeply on-trend right now and really fit the petite frame well. I think these might be my most figure-flattering jeans. I’m not specifically including my Rag+Bone Logans in the list below because they do run very, very long and I had to cut the hems and they might have been better-off if properly tailored/hemmed — but I had to admit I wear them a TON because of their comfort level (sweatpant-level comfort). If you order those, be prepared to hem / tailor / cut yourself — which is why they didn’t make the collages below — but they run slightly north of true to size (i.e., a tad big/roomy) and you can get a little price break with code JEN15.

The Best Wide-Leg Jeans for Petites.

My long-time favorites are the Rag + Bone Sofies in the ankle length. So flattering and hit right at the top of the foot. Can be worn with a flat or a boot with a slight heel — no tailoring required. Take your true size in these.

A great petite-friendly wide leg for less $$: Gap’s High Stride Jeans. I own these in two washes and they’re fantastic. They don’t have quite the same streamlined silhouette that the Sofies do — they’re a little looser and less contouring — but the fit is perfect. Take your true size in these.

The Best Straight-Leg Jeans for Petites.

A perfect everyday straight-leg: the Agolde Riley crop jeans. These are the jeans I reach for most often for casual everyday wear — they go with everything; look perfect with a white tee or treasured favorite sweater; can be worn with a jean or flat boot; and just get better and softer with time. I personally go up a size in Agolde — I can fit into my true size but I like a little looseness since I find their jeans tend to be more rigid.

I have not tried these myself, but I’d venture to guess Gap’s straight leg jean is a great look for less option in the petite inseam. I generally find their jeans are cut really well.

The Best Barrel-Leg Jeans for Petites.

I wear my Mother half-pipe jeans CONSTANTLY. The shape is contemporary and flattering. These run TTS. I have in both the true petite inseam length and in their ankle-length version (non petite, but still fits a petite). Love love love them both.

A great barrel jean at a lower price point: Madewell’s darted barrel jeans. Get the petite inseam but go DOWN a size in these — they run big — unless you’re between sizes, in which case I’d say take your smaller size.

Below are jeans that require zero tailoring and look incredible on a petite frame —

LEFT TO RIGHT: THE LIL MID RISE FULL PIPE FLOOD (TRUE SIZE) // LE PIXIE HIGH RISE SLIM (GO UP ONE SIZE; IF STILL TOO LONG, TRIM YOURSELF! THE HEMS ARE ALREADY UNFINISHED) // MID RISE 90S LOOSE JEAN*

*This is the only pair of jeans in this post that I have not yet tried, BUT I have a fellow petite friend whose taste I trust implicitly and she absolutely raves about these in the petite inseam length.

Best Petite-Friendly Non-Denim Pants.

My two favorites are the Velvet Brylie (more here; these fit like the Nili Lotan Shon pants but the darting really hits the leg exactly in the right place) — these run true to size — and the Ruti petite on the loose work pant (run TTS). The latter are a dream for travel. They are pull-on, sweatpant-level comfortable, but somehow don’t wrinkle and can be dressed up easily.

Runners-Up.

I have to say, I’m hooked on AYR jeans but I do have to hem them or cut the hems, hence their runner-up status. Start with the Legend. Gorgeous, classic, flattering fit.

P.S. Soft + cozy layers for winter.

P.P.S. Chic winter fashion under $100.
