+DAISY EDGAR JONES IN TOMORROW, TOMORROW, TOMORROW: I’m not sure how I missed this but I was scrolling through Daisy Edgar Jones’ feed (this video of her doing her bangs was hugely instructive for me) and noticed this photo of a heavily-tabbed and annotated copy of one of my favorite books, Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, followed by a knee-buckling quote from the book pinned to a cork board. I did a little sleuthing and learned DEJ is going to play Sadie in a film adaptation! I am SWOONING. I am LOVING this casting and I cannot wait to watch.
My favorite response to this news came from Reddit: “they might as well just cast Paul Mescal as Sam lol.” Yes, please and thank you. (I’ll never recover from the two of them and their crackling chemistry in the adaptation of Normal People.)

+MAREA LOVE: Been loving everything Marea has been releasing lately, and I especially love how the brand’s founder, Liz Joy, styles the pieces! I love the vibe of this throw-on, slightly boho white dress with a sturdy sandal (I’d pair with the Margaux Palermo — I ordered the blue color.)
I also would never have thought to pair chartreuse with a red stripe cardigan but I’ll absolutely be following suit. BTW, I have one of their sweaters and love it — it has a nice body-hugging silhouette. I feel like they really think about wearability. Also love the simplicity of layering the cardigan over a denim button-down!

+FICTION-WRITING THINGS: I am currently planning a solo writing retreat to make more progress on my manuscript. Fiction-writing, I find, demands really large swathes of “maker’s time.” I think having a few days of uninterrupted writing — no deadlines, curfews, places to be, etc — will be helpful. Two other things I am working on this summer, off the page, to help with this project (advised by fellow writers and publishing people!): first, seeking feedback from other writers on my draft (something I’ve never done before) and second, reading “comp titles.” My project is very squarely in the vein of Lily King, Sally Rooney, Lauren Groff’s Fates and Furies — romances that start in an academic setting and unfold over many decades. (Not comparing my writing to these legends, just to the overall narrative vibe.) I’m clearly writing what I want to read. Two other books that were recommended to me in the same breath: Broken Country and Ordinary Love. Any other recs for similar “ambitious, multi-decade romance” novels?
