Earlier this week, I made an appointment to get bangs after thinking about it for nearly a month. (Specific inspo here.) One of the reasons I finally booked the appointment was because a Magpie had written, in response to my hemming and hawing over the idea: “You should do the bangs! What would your 70 year old self say?” (Thank you, Peggy!)
Ever since Peggy left me that note, I’ve been keeping a list in my phone of things I think my 70-year-old self would say, and every time I skim it, I feel a pinging, centering sense of what matters. What would you add…?
What Would My 70 Year Old Self Say?
+Get the bangs;
+Reschedule whatever you can to be at school pickup, performances, presentations;
+Call your mom;
+It’s very important you ignore the person who asks you, “are you sure you can write a book? Writing a blog and writing a book are two very different things”;
+Related: confidence is quiet and insecurities are loud — and insults are often insecurities in disguise;
+Get in the damn picture!;
+Go downstairs and crawl into your husband’s arms;
+Drive gently;
+Ask yourself, “What does it matter to me?” a lot more than you think you need to;
+Listen when your kids are telling you who they are;
+You are not for everyone, and that’s OK;
+You look great in that bathing suit;
+Everything is going to be just fine

But it’s this perfect boxy little top layer that hits right at waist and is moisture-wicking enough to wear while exercising but also delightful while taking a casual stroll. It’s my favorite thing to wear during the first 5 minutes of spinning, before I’ve really broken a sweat.

+Beautiful cream blush colors for the new year. Although I must say that my Victoria Beckham Beauty order just arrived and I’m…!!!! WOW. The hype is verified. I especially love the foundation drops, which blend so beautifully and leave skin looking like the glowiest most perfect version of itself, and the liquid blush, which is sort of like Benetint but easier to apply and blend. I got the dark rose color and it’s not nearly as dark as you’d think — I love it for this dead of winter time! — but I can’t wait for the other colors to be restocked!
