I often read poetry before writing in the morning as a kind of limbering-up to the task at hand. Sometimes I reach for familiar voices and other times, I’ll open an anthology to a random page to see what the Calliope has in mind for me. Two poems discovered the happenstance invocation-of-the-muses way completely stopped me in my tracks earlier this month. I’ve been unpacking them for days on end and thought you might also find meaning in them —
What do they bring up for you?
Otherwise by Jane Kenyon.
This is one way to practice gratitude — !

Celestial Music by Louise Gluck.
“The love of form is the love of endings.” Wow. I have been processing this line for a long time. I love the way Gluck is strumming at the venn diagram center between divinity, art, and death so masterfully; the conversational, seemingly free-style format only underscores — complicates — the question of what it means to impose form, structure on art and life.

What did you think of these? Any other poems you’ve been enjoying lately?

+An analysis of one of my favorite Elizabeth Bishop pieces. Absolutely masterful.

+Recent bestseller among Magpies, under $100. So many great colors!
+GREAT pre-fall arrivals at Pistola, including these barrel leg “negroni” pants and these chocolate brown utilities with the on-trend paracord drawstring! I snagged a pair of the latter while available in a petite inseam! (Love the name of the color: Lindt!). These feel like a great look for less for the R+B Atlas pants. Use code JS15 for 15% off.
+EXCUSE ME — a waffle wide leg pant from our favorite lounge brand?! Swooning over these. Pair with the perfect henley popover.
+Obsessed with this logo-less canvas bucket bag. Has a quiet luxury The Row vibe to it (remember their popular Idaho bag?)
+This striped dress is SO UP MY ALLEY.
+If you’ve been waiting to jump on the barrel leg silhouette, here’s a perfect, reasonably-priced entry point. I like them because they’re a slimmer fit, so not as overwhelming/daunting to try, and the ends are unfinished, so you can trim to hit exactly where you want them to on your leg. (Also come in petite and tall!)
+While you’re there: LOVE this striped sweatshirt. Would layer with my favorite athletic dress!
+Continuing the RMS Beauty anniversary parade, skincare is 25% off today — a great time to test or stock up on my favorite glowy tinted SPF!
+Magpies are loving these woven ballet flats.
+Something you need for summer exfoliation. THE BEST. I love the green banana scent (like fresh, unripe tropical fruit and rainwater) — gives you pearlescent, gleaming skin! But if you haven’t tried this brand’s hand cream…you must. I keep mine on my bedside table. Smells divine, works magic overnight, and comes in a chic little applicator that you can refill with new pods vs. tossing away. The lid serves as a jewelry/ring dish too! This is one of my favorite gifts for sisters/girlfriends at Christmas.
+While we’re talking body care: I am newly in love with this rich body wash. Smells like fresh grapefruit and bergamot, lathers gorgeously, and just feels like luxury in a bottle.
+I wrote about this a few months ago, but a friend of mine showed up wearing the coolest red tee a few months ago, but it was sold out in my size. They just restocked it in a bunch of cool colors (alas, no red). It just looked dressy / interesting / had a perspective when she showed up in it!
+So glad a bunch of you snagged the BEST blush of all time. I implore you to try Afterglow. It looks like it will be dark in the pot but comes out this beautiful flushed-from-within-Winona-Ryder-in-winter-snow hue, and is easily buildable. Use code SHOOP15.
+Cutest party pants. A bunch of different patterns available! Use code DANA20 for a discount.
