The Palm Beach Vibe

By: Jen Shoop

I feel majorly excited (like, mah-jorly) about today’s post because it represents a collaboration with the incredibly talented artiste Amanda Bee!  I stumbled upon her site, developed an enorma-crush on her amazing talent, and knew we had to create together.  Just take a gander at these lovelies:

I was particularly drawn to her punchy/beachy palette and instantly knew  a little Palm Beach fashion trip was in order.  {My apologies for my bad case of sartorial A.D.D. this week — one day, mountaineer woman get-ups; the next, a trip to sunny, chi-chi FL.}  First up: you can’t think of Palm Beach chic without looking to Jackie O., who vacationed there frequently.  Wear this Jackie-esque dress (on sale for $375, Jules Reid — although check out the fab new prints the dress comes in this season here!  That “Daisy Stream Green” pattern is beyond.)  I’d wear mine with bold turquoise-and-cantaloupe colored earrings ($35, Endless):

You gotta complete it with a wicker clutch {love that this style is accented with turquoise on the kisslock! — $155, Kayu) and the classic Jack Roger sandal ($105, Zappos), which Jackie apparently first wore to a Catholic mass, causing quite the stir back in the ’60s.  Then everyone and their mom bought a pair, and the rest is history.  They are an absolute staple in my summer wardrobe.

They come in pretty much any color and pattern under the sun, but I’m a sucker for the bone-white combo or one of the metallics.  Check out the entire selection here.

I mean, Jackie O. wore it.  And Amanda Bee painted it.  So do it.

Also loving the Isabel Marant silhouette right now, so I’d do anything for a boxy cropped sweater in a lovely pastel ($321, MyWardrobe) with some classic white skinnies, pink icon shades (Thierry Lasry is all.the.rage. right now — $375, Net-A-Porter), a bold statement necklace in flamingo pink ($162, Bauble Bar), and some pristine white sandals ($33, Shop Ruche):

Tie it all together with a woven gold clutch (Anya Hindmarch, $550, Net-A-Porter) and some

And, how about this funky geometric printed tunic ($40, TopShop) with some soft pink enorma-studs ($70, Kendra Scott):

Imagine it with these ankle-breaking Charlotte Olympias ($905, Net-A-Porter).  O.M.G.

Meanwhile, how to die is this punchy aqua slit-back dress (Tibi, $396, Shopbop) with a tone-on-tone necklace ($198, Elva Fields)?

Perfection with this ikat pink clutch (on sale for $63, 100 Layer Cake) and some bejeweled white sandals ($170, Pret-A-Beaute):

I might also add a funky little elephant pin to my clutch ($25, Swell Caroline) — how Palm Beach preppy is that?!

I’m also contemplating testing out the maxi-skirt look.  In a bold, vibrant hue, it skirts (hehe) the whole “hippie dippie” vibe and instead looks beachy/punchy.  I’m loving this flamingo pink style ($210, Reiss — though PSST get a bargainista chic version for only $30 from Old Navy here) with a simple white tank (I buy most of mine from Velvet or Splendid) and a BANANAS necklace ($1,865, Tom Binns):

Finish with simple, unfussy Tkees ($48, Shopbop)…or, better yet, go barefoot!:

Finish with this punchy clutch (Pierre Hardy, $700, Net-A-Porter):

For real beach-time, loving this puckered/appliqued bikini (Miu Miu, $440, Net-A-Porter), which channels that retro 50s look that feels so fresh right now, especially in concert with these lucite shades (again, Thierry Lasry! — $425, Opening Ceremony):

I’d accent it with this darling Anya Hindmarch tote ($495, Saks):

And this darling kimono-style cover up (on sale for $174, It’s the New Black):

In closing — a few little tid-bits to consider for yourself.  First — these frosted zipper pouches in retro greens and pinks caught my eye ($32, ASOS).  Yes and yes.

And if you’re still looking for jewelery, another big yes in the form of this seafoam green necklace ($54, Bauble Bar).  Oh so right at $54.

OK.  Now that I’ve successfully depressed us all into wishing we were in summery Palm Beach, we can cheer ourselves up by entering the bomb.com giveaway for these neon earrings from the amazing Rocks Paper Metal shop!  Lots of lovely entries for this already, so thanks to all who entered!  See the details at the very bottom of this Love Letter post from Monday a.m. — all you gotta do is tell me what you’d wear those puppies with.  And let’s do them a favor by liking them on Facebook {And while you’re at it, consider liking me on Facebook and/or following me on Twitter or Pinterest.}

  1. I have to tell you that I (very skeptically) purchased the maxi skirt from Old Navy in your post. It came today and it is AMAZING! I’m totally blown away. It’s super flattering on my petite self – it’s fitted around the waste and hips and a perfect length. Thanks for posting – your blog is always a treat. 🙂
