P.S. I just finished listening to Ruth Reichl’s memoir — will probably write a longer review in an upcoming post on audiobooks, but had to say that I very much enjoyed this. I found it a little slow to start but the more you get to know Ruth, the more you love her. She is thoughtful, wide-eyed, down-to-earth, and absolutely spectacular when writing about food. There is nothing particularly dramatic or intense about the book: it is instead an artful recounting of her career at the helm of Gourmet magazine (RIP), and it touches on life lessons, leadership, and gratitude. But mainly, the food writing is excellent. More of what I’m reading and listening to here. What about you? Did you make your way through any of my summer reading picks?
P.P.S. High-end looks for less.
P.P.P.S. A love letter to my husband.
So curious about the Reichl memoir! I’ve actually never listened to an audiobook (! — I know, what?!) and maybe this would be a good one with which to start, as I love (great) food writing and also reading about the New York media world.
Love the look of that plaid ruffle dress from Target … I only wish it was made of cotton or even a cotton blend! Will keep my eyes out for something similar. 🙂

Definitely recommend Reichl as audiobook. One thing I’ve been realizing about listening to audiobooks is that — for me — about half of the enjoyment is the narration, and it is SO interesting to hear the author read it in her/his own voice.

Great point! Adding to my list 🙂

Do yourself a favor and read Ruth Reichl’s early memoirs! Tender at the Bone remains one of my all time favorites. Her twitter has always been wonderful, as well.
Hi Ava! I loved Tender at the Bone as well — probably read it close to a decade ago, and likely worth a revisit. Thanks for the reminder!! xx
