My Favorite Spring Statement Tops.

By: Jen Shoop

While I can’t wait to don my new fleet of every day dresses, things have been chilly in these parts, and so I’ve been mainly leaning on pretty statement tops to pair with my jeans for everyday wear, often beneath a pretty spring knit. You can see me above in this adorable $80 floral, which reminds me of something by LSF or Brock Collection. It has a fantastic texture to it — looks far more expensive than its $80 price tag! Below, a few favorite statement tops for spring —

P.S. I really love Ann Patchett — I raved about both Commonwealth and Dutch House. For some reason I could not get through Bel Canto. I listened to it on audiobook as I did the other two and I just could not get through it! I’ve heard fellow Patchett lovers bifurcate on this particular book — it is polarizing for some reason. Some claim it to be her best, and some (like me) cannot finish it! Anyway, I just downloaded her book of essays to read next.

  1. I adore Ann Patchett and highly recommend “This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage.” I haven’t tried “Bel Canto” but heard similar things!

  2. So interesting – I’ve been bored by other Ann Patchett novels (Commonwealth in particular… I know, I know!) but LOVED Bel Canto. Something about the (very) slow build in suspense about how the conflict evolves, the theme of music throughout, the relationships that developed, the constant “how would I handle this?” speculation in my head; I could go on!

    1. Editing to add – I read it, which may have made a difference. I rarely do the audiobook route (typically only when I need to refresh myself on a book club pick that I’ve already read), so perhaps the tactile reading vs. listening made a difference with Bel Canto (?).

    2. I can completely see those points of appeal in the book — truly!!! And her writing is a gift, pure and simple. It may be a time of life thing. Maybe anything I was reading at that time in my life would not have been well-received (I THINK I was trying to read this while in the midst of house hunting in DC and my mind was scattered). Reading your notes makes me want to revisit. xx
