Believe it or not, Mr. Magpie and I have been talking about Thanksgiving plans lately. Last year, his parents came up to us for the occasion, but so much is up in the air thanks to COVID-19 that we’ll just have to wait and see what’s feasible. I keep tossing out the idea of renting a house upstate for the holiday and inviting my sister-in-law and his parents to come out with us, but we shall see…
Regardless, the conversation has left me with visions of fall foliage, crisp air, and, inevitably, a wardrobe to accommodate the change in seasons. In no small part inspired by Ulla Johnson’s last cool weather collection, I’m especially into the idea of wearing patterned fall dresses with boots this season. Oh, I am HERE for this post. I have started thinking about fall dressing in a major way! I’m in the same boat as you re: Thanksgiving — we’ll have to wait & see. We typically spend it with my family, who are about a 4-hour drive away, so pending any second wave of COVID (shudder), we’ll hopefully be able to visit them. Fingers crossed!
I still think the Ulla Indah dress was the perfect Thanksgiving day pick (I rented it from RTR last year but really just wish I’d bought it instead…) — and the first puff-sleeve smocked Sea number is soooo gorgeous and has a similar look! Love. I’m also sad I missed out on that Dôen dress for $135! So perfect for a fall occasion.
Those Paris Texas croc boots are so gorgeous. I recently bought a dark brown croc pair from Loeffler Randall that will be perfect for the fall … really excited to wear them!

Yes!! We’ll be croc twins!! I love that Indah dress — actually have even worn it this summer since it’s a fairly light weight and looks just as good with pumps or even nude sandals. The cut is SO flattering!

I know! I’m not even a platform kind of girl but those are SO good. I also totally get what you mean about wanting to hang on to summer — it feels like we didn’t even fully enjoy it. I did create excuses to get dressed up, though. Some days, cocktail hour at home was enough of an excuse…!

A smocked waist dress for Thanksgiving is GENIUS. A second piece of pie? Don’t mind if I do.
I’ve hosted Thanksgiving for nine of the last 10 years, initially for my extended family and then adding various members of my husband’s family as well. Sometimes we have nearly 20 people eating at folding tables in the finished basement since we have an eat-in kitchen and no dining room! But it works. And it’s so strange that we can’t plan on doing the same this year. For now I think I’m going to focus my anxiety on sending my baby off to preschool and worry about Thanksgiving later 🙂
