Trendy Jeans to Try for Fall 2020.

I finally wiggled myself out of my skinny-jeans-only hole by trying these high-waisted, straight cut jeans from Agolde last fall and ended up loving them. My favorite way to wear them was with a voluminous or ruffly white top (like this or almost any of the exaggerated collar tops featured here) tucked in at the waist and my favorite suede pointed-toe pumps (I own this exact pair in five colorways, but you must know that they are on sale in ultra-versatile black for only $98 here — RUN).

So though I love my skinny jeans (my absolute favorite pairs are J. Brand in their photoready fabric — on sale! — and J. Crew’s toothpick style, both of which I own in multiple washes, though I have heard really good things about A.G.’s Farrah cut), I am eager to try additional new silhouettes, starting with these high-waist raw hem crop jeans (seen above, worn with aplomb) in a super-light wash from Frame denim. I haven’t worn cropped jeans since the aughts!

The other pair I am eyeing is a pair of wide leg cropped denim in ivory or off-white, which I think would make for an amazing winter white moment. I am considering these by new-to-me denim label Trave, these by cult-following brand Rachel Comey, or these from Agolde (since I have a sense for their sizing, which I would say runs slightly big at least based on the pair I bought last fall, but not big enough that I would suggest sizing down unless you’re truly between sizes).

I am already eyeing a few sweaters for fall, too, and the name of the game appears to be cardigans — they are everywhere, and decidedly not of the churchmouse variety. I am swooning over this sweet gray beauty with its delicately puff sleeves and this Ulla-esque score (both from Sezane) as well as the splurge-y, pretty ones from Shrimps (get the vibe for less with Vita Grace) and this fringed sweater jacket style from J.Crew. And don’t miss these beautiful Le Lion sweaters, marked down to 80% off!!!

Finally, a few other amazing finds for fall: these Ganni boots (marked down to 60% off), this stunning Doen blouse (also on sale), this funky Clare Vivier crossbody, and this floral quilted jacket (also love this style for even less!)

P.S. Stunning everyday jewelry.

P.P.S. What are your hobbies?

P.P.P.S. You are enough.

  1. I am a total denim hound and a few pairs of straight leg crops have been my most-worn the past year or so. I’m a slight 5’4 and have found that the perfect crop has a flattering lengthening effect on my frame. I think this goes for most petites. Go for it, Jen!

I have a few Frame pairs I like, but find that they don’t ‘hug’ enough at the waist to compliment a tucked in shirt. My favorite pairs are Agolde, 3×1 and Rag and Bone. I’ll also say that I have a rule to never buy new denim unless it’s a good mark down. I try on in store if I don’t know my size then find used on the Real Real or Poshmark. There is such a glut of gently used denim online…you can almost always find exactly the cut and brand you’re looking for at a fraction of retail price. It’s especially worth the search for a trendier cut you’re not sure you’ll love!

    1. GREAT tip, Katherine! I have had good lucky also on eBay, although you have to be careful there of faulty denim.

Going to try crops this fall for sure! Thanks for the encouragement!

  2. Love these picks but am eternally dead-ended by the crop trend in jeans; everything chic is now a crop! For someone 5’9″, the last thing I want is a pair of jeans that cuts off mid to upper calf (shuddering). I’ve been on the hunt for a good straight leg/boyfriend style that is a normal length, but haven’t found the venn diagram prize of a chic wash, relaxed fit, high waisted, non-crop style. Agh!

    1. Erica – I laughed at your shuddering description. I can totally see that you would not want a crop! I feel the same way about drop-waist styles. I am so short that a drop-waist looks absolutely absurd on me (i.e., my crotch lives at knee level) even though I adore the trend on taller people. Will keep my eye out for a good pair for those taller than I!

  3. You are speaking my language here! I love AGOLDE (I have the pinch waist jeans in white) and have been wanting to try the Ren style as well. Also, about 5 years ago I had a COH dupe of the Rachel Comey Legions in off-white, and wore them into the ground. I might need to try those Traves! So good.

And OMG, that Le Lion zodiac sweater … I love that the Gemini option is hunter green, as that color really suits me! Will have to consider it for sure.

    xx
