Tidying Up for the New Year.

By: Jen Shoop

I always use the new year as a prompt to tackle small organizational projects. As an example, one of the rooms in our basement is currently a jungle of storage boxes/bins and miscellaneous rarely-used vases, decor, etc. I would like to buy some more of these to line all the walls of the room for proper storage! I’m imagining having one for holiday decor (each shelf for a different one? I already have them organized by holiday in Sterilite bins), one for all my gift wrap, one for miscellaneous vases/jars/etc. I also have a bunch of skincare products that I try to keep beneath the sink but tend to leave out on the counter and would like to corral them all onto one of these marble trays. Meanwhile, this three-tier storage caddy would be so helpful for so many areas…in an entryway, for the inevitable miscellany (keys, mail, receipts, etc), in a bathroom for products, or even in a kitchen for fruit!

WOOD ORGANIZERS // MARBLE CROCK // SCALLOPED BASKETS // MARBLE FOIL OR WRAP DISPENSER // TIERED CADDY // TOSCA WIRE BINS // ZIPPERED STORAGE POUCHES // CLOSET STORAGE BINS // DRIED GOODS CONTAINERS // ELECTRONIC CORD ORGANIZER // SILICONE STORAGE CONTAINERS // BEST-SMELLING COUNTER SPRAY // STACKABLE LIDDED BINS // LIDDED JARS // WIRE RACKS // PANTRY LABELS // ROPE BINS

These and even more below…

  1. Ooh my heart skips a beat with all this organizational tools! (ok maybe that is an exaggeration, but you know what I mean…)

That translucent zippered pouch set for toys has been one of my favorite purchases, so thank you for the recommendation!

One thing I’d really like to tackle is my filing system. In such a digital world, what is up with ALL.THE.PAPER??? I would really like to practice “OHIO” (Only Handle It Once) with paper but for some reason it doesn’t always work out unless I specifically carve out time for it — meaning mail does sit unopened for a few days on the counter before I tackle it.

    1. I have the same struggle. I tend to let mail and paperwork pile up in my desk drawer until I can no longer close it and that acts as a forcing mechanism to take ten minutes to shred, file, etc. It’s so tedious. I wish nothing came in the mail but meaningful stuff!!

      xx
