Cabin Core: What to Wear for a Fall Weekend Getaway.

By: Jen Shoop

The above photo is from Norway (!) so not quite the casual weekend getaway I’m envisioning here but just, like, how spectacular?! Those torvtak roofs! The kitchen in my brother’s hytte (wood cabin) looked like this — be still my heart:

norway cabin

It’s almost unfair how chic things are in Norway?

Anyhoo, a couple of hygge picks for a fall getaway, of which Landon and I have a couple! We are heading to Middleburg and Charlottesville, both of which are spectacular beyond belief in autumn, and please, please consider coming to my events from those trips on October 8th in Crozet (just outside of Charlottesville) and October 9th in Middleburg. Details here. DM or email me if you’re going to make it! Then, later in October, I’m headed to the Inn at Perry Cabin, one of my favorite getaway destinations proximal to the D.C. area.

I’m already planning on going full out cabin core for all these trips! Think a big glass of nebbiolo, a cozy sweater, pointelle! Sharing a full run-down of favorites for fall getaways below —

Cabin core: what to wear for a fall weekend getaway collage.

POINTELLE PANTS (LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // POLO HAT // BEAR CARDIGAN // RED JACKET // GINGHAM SLIPPERS // RED SCARF

01. Waffle knit pullover — a perfect midweight layer. This is my tippy top rec for autumn coziness. I love the entire waffle line!

02. Ultra-comfortable Rag & Bone jeans. Like, barely touch your body. Featherweight. Divine.

03. These Birkenstock bostons are the iconic cabin shoe.

04. A fleece that calls to mind Pendleton blankets (and is still 21% off)!

05. My favorite fall campware-style enamel mug. This truly sparks so much joy.

06. This waffle henley is the perfect base layer. Have already worn mine (I own the robin’s egg blue) this season!

07. I adore the chunky oversized silhouette on this fair isle cardigan.

08. Pointelle boxer pant and the matching pointelle tee. An actual dream. Look for less at Quince.

09. Pull-on drawstring cords in the coolest barrel shape. As comfortable as pajamas but more polished.

10. I ordered these as my fall “grab the mail” / step outside shoes.

11. The beloved sailboat cardigan of summer now in a fall bear lodge print. This is in my cart…

12. I constantly wear this triangle scarf in blue – but love this red color too. Great look for less here. What I love about these scarves is that you throw them on and your outfit goes from being “jeans and a tee” to a complete head to toe look.

13. French roast leggings. The name of the color alone!

14. I’d pair the above with this deep mahogany half-zip fleece. The dream.

15. This striped long-sleeve is an immediate-pack for this season. Works as a sweatshirt, a mid-layer, or tied around the waist or shoulders for a little pattern contrast. Feels super broken-in as soon as you receive it!

16. My favorite cropped red barn jacket — can’t wait to pull this out for the season! The silhouette is incredible.

17. Western-esque fringe jacket. I own this in a past season color and it’s such a fabulous statement over top of anything — fall floral dress, waffle knit henley, jeans and a tee, etc!

18. Twill polo sport cap. These are trending — they have that #prepcore trend. I love it in the chocolate brown.

19. Varley makes the most comfortable sweatpants I own. The material is super plush and soft.

20. My favorite socks on the market in the cutest retro/vintage stripe. I’d pair these with Rothy’s clogs or Birks! (Hey, what can I say, it’s one of those unfashionable things about me.)

21. Cool cable-knit bodice on this jacket. I love the way SEA merges knitwear with outerwear/fleece every season.

22. Gingham sunday slipper — imagining wearing these on chilly mornings with your pointelle!

23. These pants feel like pajamas but still make you feel pulled together. Throw on with a chunky knit!

24. Classic crewneck sweater. I love the oversized fit on this.
