I’ve written elsewhere, roundly, about mornings — my favorite time of day. They’re full of promise, an opportunity to start over and re-set the tone for our days, weeks, months. I like to center my early hours in my favorite “sisters of time” activities, aka anything that invites me to slow down: reading (especially poetry), skincare and haircare (really leaning into the process of taking care of myself), standing outside to notice the weather, the flora, the fauna, and coffee. On the skincare front, after a brief (and, in retrospect, irrational) lapse in using my CurrentBody LED mask during the doldrum months of winter, I re-added this skincare step to my morning routine, and I immediately noticed two things. The first: I’d forgotten how much brighter, clearer, and more even my skin is when I use this consistently. It’s hard to describe what I mean by “clear” but — there is this lucidity and smoothness to the skin that I cannot achieve otherwise. My skin just looks happier! It’s like it’s just received good news. I also notice less redness around my nose especially — a chronic nuisance I’m always correcting for with concealer. Other skincare benefits the mask addresses: in clinical trials, the mask improves plumpness (by 57%) and decreases wrinkles (by 30%). I personally notice the biggest different in overall skin quality, though — big boost in evenness, brightness, clarity. It’s incredible.

On the technical front, the mask works by emitting three different clinically recognized wavelengths for anti-aging, and each of them penetrates to a different depth of skin for a different result. I think the results that I’m appreciating/noticing the most come from the 830nm wavelength, which “firms, brightens, and energizes the skin.” In case you’re comparison shopping, I find CurrentBody’s specificity with its wavelengths an indicator of quality; many lower-price devices do not specify the wavelengths they use (and there are a few specific, scientifically-studied ones that work). I also just learned that CurrentBody evidently takes this very seriously, as it is the only LED mask brand that individually tests every LED bulb to ensure they deliver the exact wavelength and intensity to match clinical studies.
The second thing I’ve observed since resuming consistency with the mask: I’m also a tad happier. I have been using the 10-minute morning mask sessions to read my “lighter fare” books — mainly of the romance/beach read variety. I normally read these kinds of books in bed before sleeping, so this feels like a delicious little snack at the top of the day. I used to try to use the LED mask to “habit stack” (i.e., meditate, guzzle a full Stanley of water, etc), but now I’m using it to “pleasure stack” (lol!). I lay down in bed, I read a few pages of a delightfully diverting book, I enjoy an iced coffee or a smoothie (must be a beverage that can be enjoyed through a straw for obvious reasons). And every other morning, I exercise first, so it feels like a gorgeous little treat for my worked-out body, to just lay in bed and recover.
CurrentBody has extended its 10% off code to us again: use code JEN10 for 10% off. I have the Series 2. The biggest differences I notice between the Series 1 and Series 2: 1) the series 2 is bigger and covers more of your chin and forehead, and 2) the series 2 is more comfortable, with straps that better secure the device to your face and enable you to move around more easily.
*One of the things I was curious about before starting to use the mask: could I do anything else while wearing it? Wouldn’t the red light blind me? You can absolutely do normal household tasks wearing this — while I prefer to use the 10 minutes to relax, I’ve also used it to do/fold laundry, tidy up, etc. The light takes a few seconds to adjust to but then you get used to it, and it won’t damage your eyes in any way. Let me know if you have any other questions about the device!

Post suggestion- your summer skincare routine? Did you post about this already? If so I am having trouble finding! Thanks Jen!
Love this idea! Haven’t posted, will share! xx
I’ve been on a hiatus with mine for the past few months and need to get back in a routine. One thing that frustrates me is the protective eye cups never stay in place and constantly pop out. Any tricks for helping them stay put? Thank you.
That is super annoying – the series 2 doesn’t have the eye cups that pop out so I can’t specifically advise. I was just googling about this and saw there’s a lot of chatter on Reddit about this particular issue, so you might find some input / help there?
