One of the most-searched for terms on my blog recently: “white dress.” I completely understand; the LWD is the swiss army knife of a summer wardrobe. I love pairing with nautical stripes, bold colored-accents, simple brown leather details to create completely different vibes. Above, I tried a new little styling trick: I borrowed the sash/belt from a patterned dress (in this case, a broderie shirtdress from Boden) to add a little interest and contrast to this simple cotton fit and flare dress. The dress runs a bit big and I wanted to cinch it a bit more at the waist. I really like to tie my self-tie belts/sashes “obi” style — you start with the belt centered against your bellybutton, loop around your back, then tie off at the waist. I added a little extra oomph with a contrasting chartreuse bag from Ulla Johnson, a La Ligne Marin that matched the belt perfectly, a tangle of necklaces (Hart, Lizzie Fortunato Neptune necklace, Dorsey), and Margaux Palermo sandals.
This dress is 30% off right now! Note that it runs roomy. I think you should size down in this, especially if you’re relatively flat up top. And you can always try my belt trick!

In addition to the above, sharing my top picks for white dresses for the season ahead —

EYELET DRESS // STAUD DRESS // BELTED DRESS // J.CREW DRESS
01. This gorgeous poplin has been a Magpie reader favorite for the past few weeks. I think we all bought this dress — myself included. I love the unexpected buttoned side placket on the skirt — adds a utilitaritan vibe, something eye-catching and different. Note also that Buck Mason made some smart and functional design decisions: the bodice is double-layered (so we can probably go without bra if need be) and the skirt is fully lined.
02. This tee-shirt dress is insanely versatile and comfortable. I wore it in black last weekend and was reminded of what an incredible garment it is. A nice, thick, structured cotton that drapes beautifully and a self-tie waist that creates a flattering silhouette. J’adore. Use code MAGPIE10.
03. The neckline and hem stitch detail on this dreamy dress! I love the Jenni Kayne lifestyle it invokes. You need bare feet, a flagstone patio, a glass of rose…
04. Everyone’s favorite Boden shirtdress in fetching white eyelet. I absolutely love the collarlessness of this style — it elevates and modernizes.
05. Scoop neckline linen dress. Slightly sexy in a Marilyn Monroe kind of way. It’s meant to be paired with this ankle wrap sandal.
06. This eyelet mini has fabulous details. Great for my tall, long-legged Magpie friends.
07. The seashell motif in the embroidered hem of this dress is so charming! This seems like a match made in heaven for jellies and a necklace like this.
08. The silhouette of this Rosie Assoulin dress is spectacular, and just so different from anything I’ve ever seen before. They release this silhouette in a few patterns/prints each season.
09. Breathtaking hand-beaded kaftan.
10. Feminine corset-style panel on this Staud dress. Absolutely stunning on — it really fits the body so gorgeously.
11. Effortless shirt dress for barefoot weekends.
12. This dress would take you from the beach to cocktails.
13. This dress stopped me in my tracks. Love the sleeve length, the drop waist, the smart tailored collar.
14. This button-front J.Crew is a head-turner. Loving all these structured poplin options!
15. A perfect white eyelet mini.
16. Smart midi shirtdress in airy seersucker.

Great picks! I snatched this one up when they discounted it a few weeks ago…haven’t been able to wear it since it’s still so chilly! Usually you’ll find me in a pattern or at least a brighter color…but I was in the mood for simple white linen, and the trim was enough to give it something extra. https://www.madewell.com/p/womens/clothing/dresses/casual-dresses/embroidered-mini-shift-dress-in-100-linen/NZ503/?ccode=RD6140
LOVE this silhouette! So cute! And I can imagine lots of different ways to style!! xx
