Holiday Joy with Talbots.

By: Jen Shoop

Thank you Talbots for sponsoring this post.

This burgundy sequin skirt turned my head immediately — it was meant for champagne and gougeres by a fireplace. I saw it and its styling promptly suggested itself (don’t you love when that happens?): I loved the idea of spotlighting its glitz in an otherwise monochromatic outfit. This is in fact my styling tip for working any dramatic pattern, fabric, motif into an outfit (feathers, plaid, embellishment, fringe!): keep the rest of the look in the same color family. It makes dramatic elements much more approachable!

Anyhow, this is the kind of outfit that is perfect for festive gatherings at a home. I wore a version of this exact look to a holiday party at a girlfriend’s home last year and felt perfectly dressed: festive, joyful but also comfortable and lowkey.

SEQUIN SKIRT // TURTLENECK // CABLEKNIT SWEATER

A few other joyful Talbots finds for the holidays:

THIS FAIR ISLE KNIT

THIS TARTAN COAT (!!!!)

THIS POINTELLE CARDIGAN

THIS TARTAN SKIRT (IMAGINE WITH A BLACK TURTLENECK AND TALL BOOTS)

The sweaters would make joyful gifts for a mother or sister, and the tartan coat would be such a fabulous topper for the season. You know my thoughts on statement outerwear…! I feel like we tend to think black, navy, camel are the only way to go (practical and versatile), but outerwear is such a great place to go a statement route. A dramatic coat can completely make an outfit when layered over basic jeans and a white tee. I love the idea of balancing that coat with these lined boots and some light-wash denim and a beanie to drop gifts at a friend’s home, or pick up gingerbread lattes for coffee with girlfriends.

You can shop more of Talbots’ joyful winter collection here — I love all these poinsettia red finds!

How cute!! My nana famously gave gifts every Christmas in Talbots boxes, which she then asked for back. Good boxes!
