Fit for a Queen

By: Jen Shoop

Today, I’m loving the good ol’ pink and gold combo — that regal, queen-like combination that makes me feel oh-so-happy and oh-so-girly at the same time.  The onset of this sudden color craving can be attributed to Jen Ramos’ GORGEOUS wall canvas ($400, Cocoa & Hearts), which I so desperately want for my bedroom:

So visually appealing, n’est-ce pas?  I’ll recreate the look for less (or supplement the prints above) with gold and pink accent pieces in the home, like a pair of metallic thread pillows ($32 each, Crate & Barrel):

Then, atop a ladylike console ($1,200, Furbish), I’d place little pink and gold knick-knacks, like these awesome gold ball candles ($8.95 apiece, Crate and Barrel) and one of these pretty little glass-ettes (check out the awesome colors they come in!  SWOON! — $44, GlassyBaby):

I’d also add this pretty pink-printed tray ($20, Zhush) and fill it with little gold doo-dads and jewelry pieces — a gold pen (I’ve long wanted one of these Cross brand classics, $151, Amazon), a gold watch (I like almost every watch that Michael Kors puts out, but this jet-setter has been on my lust-list for years now — $250, Shopbop), gold flower earrings (Alex Monroe, on sale for $120, Net-A-Porter — I wear a similar style I snagged at J. Crew several times a week!), and other little gold trinkets (I’ve heard people collect gold keys, and I love that!):

I’d probably also throw a set of gold-lined cards ($18 for set of 8, Rifle Paper) on the table and stow stamps, pens, and paper clips alongside them in this shallow feather dish ($45, Jayson Home and Garden):

Finally, I’d keep business cards and other odds ‘n ends in this funky little camel pouch ($98, Virginia Johnson):

For technology needs, I’d store my iPad in this bold pink case ($50, Net-A-Porter), would juge up my drab desktop with a paisley pink mini-mouse ($18, MacBeth Collection), and would add a little 24 karat sparkle to my day with gold (!) earbuds ($69, SkullCandy):

I’d keep my iPhone in one of these awesome, personalizable cases ($60, Graphic Image):

Important: do you want one of the iPhone cases above?!  WELL, it’s your lucky day!  The fab folks over at GraphicImage will be gifting one lucky FashionMagpie reader with one of their iPhone cases!  All you need to do is leave a comment on this post describing/identifying the most important phone call you’ve ever had in your life.  Off-the-wall responses encouraged — I love hearing about y’all.  I’ll randomly select and announce a winner next Thursday, December 15th!  Also, if you could be a doll and like me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter, I will count your entry TWICE and will therefore — POOF — increase your odds of winning.  And — if you can’t wait until then — you can use coupon code GIFTS for 20% off your purchase starting today!

And — back to the subject: the interior of my desk and bureau drawers would look oh-so-lovely lined with this gold chevron liner ($25, Hammocks and High Tea), don’t you think?!  I’d feel like I was shopping whenever getting dressed!

For self, this HOT pink Vanessa Bruno topper is un.believable ($1,785, Matches), which would POP with a bright pink-red-white scarf ($195, Virginia Johnson):

Perfection with gold pumps ($98, Endless) and a woven tote (Anya Hindmarch, $1,200, Net-A-Porter):

Don’t forget to finish with a bold swipe of hot pink lipstick ($24, Kate Spade — love the packaging!):

Or, check out this fantastic gold jacket (Stella McCartney, $2,325, Net-A-Porter), which would look lovely against these cluster earrings ($70, Kendra Scott):

Ah-mazing with hot pink gloves ($87, Forzieri) and a hot pink clutch/wallet ($130, Net-A-Porter):

For a cocktail party out, do you d.i.e. like I do over this affordable gold thread strapless number ($105, Jane Norman), which I would pair with this ladylike necklace ($155, Kendra Scott):

Finish with these hot pink phenoms ($945, Barney’s) by — who else?! — Louboutin — and that bow clutch I’ve been swooning all over (on sale for $68, J. Crew):

If you prefer a lighter touch, why not pair a LGD (little gold dress) with this fun/funky little book clutch ($325, Kate Spade) and some soft pink tootsies (Sergio Rossi, $715, Intermix)?

Finally, and this is the real meat of the post — I just am dying over this hot pink Balenciaga bag ($1,695, Balenciaga).  It is so loud and impractical, it’s almost offensive.  But fab at the same time.  I’d wear it with these lovely, ladylike gold flats (on sale for $207, Loeffler Randall):

Don’t forget, chic peas — all you have to do to win one of those pretty little Graphic Image iPhone cases is to leave a comment on this post telling the story of your most important phone call you’ve ever made/received.  A winner will be announced next Thursday, December 15th.  And if you’d be a little sugar-plum, like me on Facebook or follow me on Twitta, and I’ll enter you TWICE into the running.  Woot woot.  Hello, Thursday!

Ooh la la!

  1. Ummm first of all as you say, I d.i.e. for your blog. It feels like I’m reading the thoughts and wishes of a best friend. And your bits about Mr. Magpie kill me (a man who seems to knows that life is about the little things, even if that means mustard-gold colored argyle socks tehe). ANYWAYS! The best phone call I’ve ever received? My Junior year of college I went through a period of feeling completely overwhelmed by my work, boyfriend, etc. Though we spoke for only a matter of minutes, my Mom picked up on just how heavily I was feeling it all during our weekly phone call, and booked a flight to come see me, but without telling me! (Sneaky sneaky). The next day, I received a call from my Mom, who told me to look out my window- and there she was, standing outside of my house in Ann Arbor, waving. I cried like a small infantile child haha. That was, without a doubt, the best call I’ve ever received. Anyways, Barb (mia madre) just got herself an i-phone (her only app of course is this amazing thing where people submit pictures of their small white dogs) and I was thinking that one of those cases would suit her just perfectly.
    x’s and o’sssss,

  2. The most important phone call? That is a tough one there have been many important ones, but I will say it was one that took place in the middle of the night on my 16th birthday. A very handsome boy I had met earlier in the day called to say he couldn’t stop thinking about me. He took me on a date the next day and the rest is history – now 8 1/2 years later he is my husband!:)
    Love your blog! xo

  3. love love LOVE your blog! the most important phone call i’ve received was my FIRST job offer as a lawyer – i get to fight for women’s rights everyday, which is so fulfilling and fabulous. also so fun that you’re in DC! & i follow you on FB 🙂

  4. Love pink and gold. The most important phone call I’ve ever received was from the dean of admissions telling me I got into my first choice law school! Whenever I am tired of studying, I think how happy I was to see that number light up the phone.

I follow you on facebook & twitter! xo

  5. You are so sweet to include my shop in this fab round up! We must have the same exact taste, not only do I LOVE this whole list, but I actually HAVE that console!:)
