A couple of gift ideas for the fathers in your life! A few notes…
+If you’re looking for some new grilling gear, Mr. Magpie recently bought this “grill rescue” brush and this CharGon grill cleaner after seeing that the classic wiry ones you tend to buy can shed! He said he came across a photo of a dude picking a piece of wire out of his steak because he’d cleaned his grill with one of the wire ones. He’s also been liking this ultra-wide grill spatula.
+If you have an outdoorsy guy, or someone who frequently takes short day trips/adventures, this Bellroy lite daypack has so many clever features (including a raised sunglasses pocket, a key ring clip, an expandable water bottle pocket, etc) and the price is right at $100. I’m eyeing for our next-summer trip to Colorado — would be a great hiking option.
+Mr. Magpie just upgraded our coffee grinder to this Fellow one. He loves it. He’d been using a manual grinder for awhile, but it was so much work, especially when we have guests over. We both think it’s yielding an even smoother cup.
+Lake is currently offering 10% off sitewide with code GIFTLAKE — a nice little perk if ordering your man some new pajamas. I like this pair. I might also just use the code for myself.

P.S. If he’s into cooking, more inspo here and here.
P.P.S. To Mr. Magpie: thank you for handing me an envelope that contained the universe.
P.P.P.S. 3 a.m. parties.
We also just got the Fellow grinder and agree that it has noticeably changed our morning lattes! Plus it’s just so sleek and appealing on the counter.
Inquiring minds want to know…did you upgrade to the SSP MP burrs or go with the ones that come with the Gen2?
Not on this post but buying my husband the Fellow coffee grinder Mr Magpie recently researched. My Mr Magpie question (from a grinder rookie)……do I need to upgrade my husband to the SSP MP brew burrs?? Would love his thoughts before I purchase!
I will ask and get back to you! xx
Thanks!!
Hi Jennifer! I checked with Landon and he said (paraphrasing): It depends on how much of a coffee nerd he is. The upgraded burrs are meant to yield greater clarity of flavor, so it might be worth the investment if he’s drinking single-origin beans and really wants to taste each flavor note. If he’s drinking more blends and not AS MUCH AS a coffee nerd, it’s probably not necessary. (We did not get the upgraded burrs.) Landon also seemed to think that you can always upgrade later, and install the burrs yourself on the machine you buy, if you decide you want to go that direction.
TL;DR — I would say skip unless he’s REALLY nerding out over single origin coffee beans / into doing intense tasting notes.
xx
Thank you!!
