Father’s Day Gift Ideas.

By: Jen Shoop

Thank God for my dad. (More on him here, here, and here.)

Father’s Day will be celebrated in a couple of weeks, and I’ve rounded up a number of beautiful finds for your dad, your husband, or any meaningful father figure in your life…

GARRETT LEIGHT SUNGLASSES (I BOUGHT MR. MAGPIE THIS EXACT STYLE IN THE CHAMPAGNE COLOR — WHICH BRAD PITT ALSO OWNS…JUST SAYING)

ONE OF THESE AMAZING FRAMED MATCHBOOKS FROM A RESTAURANT WITH PARTICULAR MEANING

BRIOGEO EXFOLIATING SHAMPOO — SUPPOSED TO BE INCREDIBLE AND A LOT CHIC-ER THAN HEAD + SHOULDERS; BRIOGEO IS A BLACK-OWNED BUSINESS

MR. MAGPIE HAS NEVER WORN A STRIPED TEE BEFORE — THIS MIGHT BE A GOOD GATEWAY DRUG

A GOOD EXCUSE TO BUY THOSE COLORED ESTELLE GLASSES YOU’VE BEEN EYEING FOR YOURSELF (HA) — ALSO A BLACK-OWNED BUSINESS

ROYAL HIGHNIES BOXERS (PURPORT TO BE THE ABSOLUTE SOFTEST…LOVE THE TRADITIONAL STYLING)

PETROSSIAN CAVIAR

OR, IF YOUR MAN IS ON THE HEALTHIER END OF THE SPECTRUM, THIS SUPERFOOD LATTE SAMPLER (FROM A BLACK-OWNED BUSINESS BASED IN BROOKLYN)

A VINTAGE SAINT MEDALLION (MY DAD WOULD LOVE THIS) — ST. CHRISTOPHER IS THE PATRON SAINT OF TRAVEL

A GOOD PUZZLE (MY DAD WOULD ALSO LOVE THIS)

I LOVE THE LENGTH OF THESE EVERYDAY SHORTS — BOUGHT MR. MAGPIE THESE IN THE CERULEAN COLOR AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO HIS PATAGONIA BAGGIES; BOTH CAN BE WORN AS SWIM SUITS/LOUNGEWEAR/EVERYDAY SHORTS

LOVE THE BRAND ABOVE — CENTURY 21 HAS A FEW PAIRS OF THEIR MENS SWIM TRUNKS ON RIDICULOUS SALE…THIS SOLID BLUE PAIR IS CHIC

SPEAKING OF SWIMMING – HAVE WANTED TO SPLURGE ON A PAIR OF VILBREQUIN SWIM TRUNKS FOR MR. MAGPIE FOREVER…LOVE THESE IN STARK WHITE (<<SOMEHOW ON SALE!)

ALSO THINK IT WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE TO HAVE MR. MAGPIE MATCH HILL WEARING THESE (THESE FOR MICRO)

NORM CORE AT ITS FINEST — LOVE THE BLUE

A NEW COOKBOOK (WINNER OF THE JAMES BEARD AWARD!) AND A CLASSIC ONE THAT I THINK HE’LL LOVE GIVEN RECENT FORAYS INTO BRIOCHE BAKING

A HARDING LANE BALLCAP (HE LOVED THE ONE I BOUGHT HILL)

A GOOD NOVEL, COLLECTION OF SHORT STORIES, OR WORK OF NON-FICTION (CURRENTLY READING THIS MYSELF AND FIND IT AS COMPELLING AND LYRICAL AS FICTION) — ALL WRITTEN BY BLACK AUTHORS

BABOLAT TENNIS RACQUET (WOULD LOVE TO GET BACK INTO PLAYING WITH MR. MAGPIE — I AM ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC AND HE IS IRRITATINGLY GOOD, BUT IT IS SO FUN)

THESE PIZZA STONES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE ABSOLUTE BEST — KEEP ONE IN YOUR OVEN AT ALL TIMES, EVEN WHILE BAKING OTHER THINGS, TO REGULATE THE OVEN TEMP!

ALL-CLAD 8 QT MULTI-POT — PRETTY MUCH THE LAST SIZE OF POT WE NEED TO COMPLETE OUR ALL-CLAD SET…THOUGH I HAVE TO SAY THIS SMALL MAUVIEL BUTTER WARMER WAS ONE OF THE SURPRISE HIT GIFTS I’VE EVER GIVEN HIM

LACOSTE POLO (40% OFF; SALE ENDS TONIGHT) — I LIKE THE GREEN IN PARTICULAR

CUSTOM ABSTRACT FAMILY PORTRAIT — OBSESSED WITH THESE! THIS ARTIST DESIGNS THEM AND YOU PRINT YOURSELF / SEND TO A PRINTER (BLACK-OWNED BUSINESS!)

P.S. More gifts for men, or consider browsing our favorite cookbook roundup and our favorite items for the kitchen for more inspo.

P.P.S. A lot of love for my husband; this post in particular springs to mind as we head into summer.

P.P.P.S. Miscellaneous new finds: chic block-print beach skirt at a great price, a chic stroller fan, this easy-to-wear gingham linen dress from a sustainable line of clothing built by a Black founder who also holds an advanced degree in earth sciences (!), and yet another fantastic, pearl-centric sweater from Vita Grace — this one with major Chanel vibes.

  1. So funny, my partner’s birthday just passed and I gave him a Breton striped shirt as one of his gifts … big hit! I was mildly concerned because Breton stripes are usually my territory — haha!

LOVE Milk Street’s recipes — I have another one of their cookbooks and it’s been great.

All of these books look wonderful! I am excited to dive into The Warmth of Other Suns after I finish my current read. I actually just the other day placed an order for books for my dad for Father’s Day and should have included that — would have been fun to have a father-daughter reading club! Maybe I’ll still do it. 🙂

    xx

P.S. LOVE what I see from Two Days Off! Bookmarking that site for sure.

    1. Hi! Oo! Where was the shirt from? I actually considered a classic St. James Breton for him but was waffling on the boatneck…it feels a bit much for Mr. Magpie? Maybe too costume-y?

Woo woo keep me posted on your thoughts on the books!

      xx

    2. I like their shirts! I have one from a collab they did with MoMA, and it’s wonderful. Still slightly partial to Saint James myself, but I see the virtues of Armor Lux for sure. 🙂
