*Image above of the ultra-chic Victoria K.L. and her precious girls, whose enchanting style in no small part inspired by obsession with houndstooth this season. She managed to snag a pair of ultra-coveted and sold-out-the-world-over Chanel combat boots (and that Chanel houndsooth bag — OMG), but I’ve shared some similar finds below.
A lot of you are in the market for boots and everyday footwear for the fall and winter season. This post is a roundup of all my favorites across all categories…happy shopping for happy feet!
The Clog Trend.
I’ve been all over this trend. I bought these clog boots (look for less with these) but also love this streamlined pair from Everlane, this unexpected (and heavily discounted) white pair, and this unexpected and wonderfully-priced pair from Etsy (the floral reads “Gucci” to me — perfect to keep at the back door for quick errands outside).
P.S. You know a trend is cool when Isabel Marant is doing it.
The Combat Boot Trend.
I have to be honest that a few pairs of combat boots have turned my head this year, though I’m usually more in the ladylike footwear camp. My picks below are what I would term “combat-lite”:
MARC FISHER’S QUILTED, PYTHON, OR SHEARLING-LINED STYLES
THESE SCHUTZES (THE EDGIEST OF THE GROUP, BUT I LIKE THE SLIM PROFILE AND THE TIE AROUND THE BACK — IMAGINE PAIRING WITH BLACK TIGHTS AND A TWEED DRESS)
THESE QUILTED BALMAINS (SIMILAR TO VICTORIA’S ABOVE)
The Everyday Black Boot/Booties.
These are black boots to wear every day, all season long: these kitten heeled lovelies, these waterproof flat boots ($200!), these ruched suede slouchy boots, these suede Isabel Marants, and these Nicholas Kirkwoods (yes, the pearl is a big statement, but I would live in these).
The Sneaker Trend.
I am loving these Vejas and either the floral or tie-dye pair from Loeffler Randall.
The Velvet Mule Trend.
It started with Le Monde Beryl’s velvet mules — I’ve had my eye on these for months now. I also like this pair in the rust velvet from Margaux (perfect fall color) and these ($79!) in the cherry red are pretty much the perfect holiday shoe.
The Everyday Flat.
My favorite buys for wearing round-the-clock this season: these velvet ballet flats ($100 — the colors are fun but the yellow in particular feels like a near-neutral with all the ivory, denim, gray, brown we wear in fall), these knotted slides (so elegant and look far more expensive than their pricetag), these Python ballet flats (under $100), these pointed toe python flats (OBSESSED), these pebbled leather pointed toe flats (amazing price), and these Mansur Gavriels.
The Croc Trend.
Self-explanatory chic-ness here. My top picks:
THESE POLISHED TALL BOOTS (A FOREVER INVESTMENT — I SWEAR THE SHAPE AND STYLE WILL ALWAYS BE IN VOGUE)
THIS PAIR OF BOOTS FROM STAUD — THE HEEL IS VERY ON-TREND RN
Just for Fun.
Frivolous and indulgent because that’s how I like my shoes…
THESE VELVET BOW-TOED STATEMENTS (AAAAHHHH!)
EMBELLISHED SUEDE MULES (UNDER $100)
SHEARLING MULES ($130!!!)
P.S. Great bags and chic transitional coats for fall.
P.P.S. The raincoat we’ve all been dying over for years is on sale for 25% off here and here!
P.P.P.S. 9 things that surprised me about having a c-section.
Beyond in love with the Sandro dress! I’ve been stocking up on the chic Sandro (and Maje!) cardigans and consider them a wardrobe staple (ps there’s an amazing houndstooth one right now that you might enjoy). I definitely need to add this dress to the collection.
Taylor — yes!! I know the houndstooth one you’re referring to. So gorgeous! Envious of your collection!

So many great ideas here, Jen! Dying over those Jimmy Choos… so elegant!
Re: sneakers: I have been eyeing Isabel Marant’s Beth sneakers… https://m.shopbop.com/beth-sneakers-isabel-marant/vp/v=1/1516852598.htm
…then I hemmed and hawed too long that I missed out on the recent Shopbop sale. I hesitated because I got a pair of Golden Goose last year, which make me ridiculously happy every time I wear them, but it’s definitely a specific “look” — whereas the Isabel Marant ones have more of a “polish” (?) to them. Although I’ve been wearing sneakers often, I’m not sure I’m ready to take the plunge and purchase another pair of designer sneakers so soon — but oh the heart eyes! Maybe I’ll hold out until the pandemic is over…
Not sure if you’ve tried M.Gemi, but they have had some really good sales lately! I’d been thinking about their very popular Felize driving loafers for a long time and finally snagged a pair in this delightful marigold shade for $75! They are truly so soft and comfortable out of the box.
Yes! I’ve seen those Marant sneakers on some VERY chic people. I hear you on the reluctance to make a second investment in this category — I’ve gone through the same thought process. However, I do find that I wear my Golden Goose sneakers A LOT with small children. They still somehow manage to make me feel cooler/more put together when I’m just wearing jeans and a striped Kule tee…therefore, I could totally be convinced…

I ordered the beige No.6 heeled clog boots from the Shopbop sale and I cant wait for them to arrive. Definitely not my style normally, but hoping I can pull them off as I think they are chic and practical? Would love your thoughts on comfort and how you style them! Xo
Thank you for this lovely roundup! I have worn clogs pretty consistently since the late 90s (!!) and cannot say enough good things about No. 6. I have two pairs of boots and one pair of sandals from them and love them all. The quality is excellent!
I have a submission to add for anyone looking for velvet flats (though, come to think of it, they may be sold out in most sizes) — the mary janes from Drogheria Crivellini that Alex Mill has been selling this season. So comfy and chic! I have to say, Alex Mill has really come to replace J.Crew for me. I LOVE all of the pieces I’ve bought from them.
xx
!! Thank you so much for these endorsements, especially of Alex Mill, a brand I’ve been seeing more and more often but not yet heard anyone speak directly about. Thank you! xx
Happy to give feedback any time! I have found that their clothes have excellent quality — a bit better than, say, your average Everlane piece, and definitely better than contemporary J.Crew — but their clothes’ general vibe reminds me of J.Crew in its 90s heyday, in a good way. I have a few shirts and the Nico Chunky Cardigan in both colors (! haha) and really love each piece. Big thumbs up from me.
