I am so glad I saved a fair isle sweater I bought over a decade ago because I’ve suddenly gotten so much use out of it this season! It’s nearly identical to this RL style, which they geniusly released with a matching sweater skirt that I’ve been eyeing (the print also comes in a fabulous wrap sweater moment that brings me major Shiv Roy vibes). Can you even?! With suede boots or these delicious suede flats (love the corded bow!)? Speaking of statement skirt moments, I love the idea of this SS fair isle sweater with a full skirt for an unexpected holiday party look.
Not seen above, but also worth a look:

I love the vibe of pairing fair isle with textured pants, whether knit or corduroy, and for cords, I’m digging the vintage straight-leg fit at the moment, a la my Gap ones, these from Moussy, these from Loft, and also high-rise trouser style like this pair from Nordstrom and this steal of a pair from Target!
For little ones, a few favorite fair isle finds…

I have a fair isle sweater from Talbots that I purchased some years ago. It is definitely coming out this winter and I may have to pick up at least one more, although the RL skirt & sweater set is a dream!
Yay! Agree, I’m super tempted by the sweater/skirt combo!

Ha, another “vintage” fair isle sweater here! I recently wore mine from Abercrombie for the first time since perhaps 1998??? NO IDEA why I kept that of all things! My youngest had a precious fair isle coverall from Gap last year and it was one of my favorite outfits, despite the fact that it had BUTTONS down the legs instead of snaps. Like no one at Gap has ever changed a diaper or something. Anyway, this year I’m excited that she’s big enough to wear the Boden fair isle cardi that I was super pumped to find second hand when my oldest was a baby. Fair isle for all, indeed!
Oh man, the diapers instead of snaps are killer!! I get it when it’s something heirloom/hand-stitched but…GAP! Come on!
I’m also so glad I hung onto my fair isle from like over a decade ago!!

I love this round-up! The Alex Mill is VERY fun and good. My fair isles are mostly Dale of Norway—great as a base layer on the slopes, but too heavy for everyday winter. Guideboat also makes a good one. Their website is atrocious but I can vouch for the Shetland quality.
Thanks for these recs, and for the intel on the Alex Mill!!

I have a huge collection of vintage fair isle, so I am feeling inadvertently very trendy this season, haha!
Timeless!!
