It was a week of transitional temps! We had a 58 degree morning and then multiple 90 degree afternoons. Hey, I’ll take it! My favorite thing I wore this week was my La Ligne Mini Marin. It just made me so excited about the impending season, and it’s one of those pieces that is insanely comfortable and well-cut. I love the plush, thick wool-cashmere blend and the cool crop.
I was also delighted to find a full run of my favorite utility pants available in on-trend chocolate — probably my other favorite thing I wore this week! (I’ve been seeing a lot of chocolate/cornflower blue combos this season!). These run very TTS and I love that they don’t nip in or bother you anywhere. Very comfortable and look super cute on. I own these pants in several colors and they are one of my favorite workday wears. A nice loose fit and the barrel leg is flattering. Love the drawstring waist. Runs TTS. Currently wearing these in olive green!
Not pictured here, but I wore this sailboat cardigan all Labor Day weekend long, over striped sundresses, gingham shorts, eyelet maxis! I really did not do a good job capturing my LDW lineup — proof of a good time with family :). The fact that I feel like this goes with everything is making me contemplate the fall (bear) version…BTW, Tnuck has a good look for less for the one I have! Buy now for next summer!
THE Cadets Pants!
I mentioned this several times, but these are back in stock and shipping now! They’ve extended the sizes and added great new fall colors and patterns. These are such a great alt to leggings/sweats but feel just as comfortable. I love the way they look with a slightly boxy/loose-hemmed top, like this terry cardigan, or a rollneck sweater.

Back to School Event!
Had a couple of visits to the kids’ schools this week! I love a crisp stripe for fall (as evidenced by the photos above and below), and this dress is truly exceptional. Love the length (almost a maxi on me, but note that I am a shrimpy 5’0). I also wore this twice in London! The texture, the shirting stripe, the drama of it! It’s somehow, magically, 50% off right now.
The bag is a Fendi Peekaboo Petite, which was my gift to myself after publishing Small Wonders. It sparks joy every time I look at it. I found a fab version on TRR in a stunning ice blue color.

Writing Uniform.
Dressing for comfort, and also — dressing exactly as I would have in high school? Truly, this was my go-to formula on the rare occasion we had free dress at my heavily-uniformed all girl’s school: a white oxford and navy sweats, rolled down at the waist. I felt right at home in this some 30 years later. Some formulas just stick!
I was wearing Rhoback’s new and predictably great Aspire pants. I don’t always love a pintuck in a pair of leisure pants — I know they are everywhere, especially at Varley — but the pleat can do strange things to my petite frame and occasionally add volume where you want none. However, these are an exception. The pintuck flatters. And I love the on-trend track pant stripe down the side!

Hi Jen! Did you take the petite version of the Pistola pants? I noticed that those are harder to find, but I also read that the regular version has a 26.5″ inseam which is very surprising, but it may work if cuffed.
Also, is it a true adjustable waist/is the drawstring actually functional? That is my litmus test for pants nowadays, what with perimenopausal bloating and weight settling in the middle, etc.

Hi! Mine are the petite length (I got them from Pistola before they sold out) BUT I also have a green pair and a white pair that are in the “regular” inseam length, and they also work! I wear the “regular” inseam one with a slight roll / hem turned up at the ankle — I actually think this works with the style of the pant / looks cool and casual — but I can even wear it unrolled and it doesn’t drag on the floor — sort of hits the top of the foot.
The waist is truly adjustable / drawstring is functional!

I recently bought a pair of the Cadets pants on your recommendation & really like them- thank you! I am really tempted by the Me & Em dress, but I find I don’t have patience for things that are dry clean only, unless they’re very special occasion/formal wear type things. I note the Me & Em shirtdress says it’s dry clean only, have you followed this, or found it okay to hand wash or gentle machine wash?

Hi! I have to be honest, and hopefully this doesn’t make me seem disgusting, but I haven’t yet laundered the dress! I often wear a dress multiple times before laundering! I will probably dry clean this one because of 1) the texture — I can just tell it will be horribly wrinkled/misshapen after a turn through the machine, and 2) the combination of fabrics makes me uneasy. I typically WILL launder things that are cotton or linen no matter what the label suggests, but the blend of materials always gives me pause. This probably isn’t helpful :/ but those are my thoughts! xx
Not disgusting — I read that this is actually the more sustainable way. We don’t work out in dresses! I also read that denim can be worn 10x before washing?? That is a stretch for me, but I do wear some items a few times before washing if I didn’t break a sweat.
I also hear that some people make this concoction of vodka and essential oil to spray on their clothes to refresh between wears? I haven’t tried this myself, but was curious.
I try to limit dry cleaning as well but I agree that for certain fabrics and investment pieces, it’s worth the extra step. I had started doing a little research on more eco-friendly dry cleaners (not quite sure yet what this entails) for peace of mind.

Oh phew!!! I also easily wearing jeans 8-10x between washes! I think it really prolongs the life of the garment, and also — IDK, I just don’t think things get that dirty that quickly?? Obviously unless I’m walking around in nature with mud or something!
I hadn’t heard of the vodka spray!!! I’m skeptical but will be looking into this. Anything to avoid doing laundry, ha!
