Chic Attire for Tennis, Golf, + Other Summer Athletics.

By: Jen Shoop

I recently did some recon for a friend of mine looking for attractive golf outfits, and she loved my picks from Tory Burch — namely two cute skorts (this one and this one) to pair with this adorable polo.

A couple of other stylish summer athletic finds, some performance-oriented and others just for looking the part…

01. // 02. // 03. // 04. // 05. // 06. // 07. // 08. // 09. // 10.

Even more picks below — but if you want a short cut to my top picks: this fitness skort, which can be used for running but would also be a great tennis skirt (hoping to finally get into tennis when I move to D.C.!) and these fun new botanical running shorts.

THIS TENNIS SKIRT HAS SUCH FUN COLORS

MOST OF MARYSIA’S NEW SPORT LINE HAS SOLD OUT BUT THIS TOP IS SO GOOD (AND STILL AVAIL)

A GREAT RETRO-STYLE PAIR OF SHORTS ($38)

CLASSIC PLEATED WHITE SKIRT

SERIOUSLY FUN TUBE SOCKS — ALSO LOVE THESE ONES!

A WHITE BOXPLEAT DRESS (TENNIS-INSPIRED!)

$30 FITNESS SHORTS IN TONS OF COLORS

I LOVE THESE BIKE SHORTS — THEY ARE THE FIRST PAIR I’VE FOUND THAT ACTUALLY WORK ON MY PETITE FRAME…SO MANY OTHERS CUT TOO LONG! I WEAR MINE WITH LOOSE-CUT TANKS LIKE THIS ($16)

SEVERAL OF THESE ON SNEAKERS WERE FURTHER REDUCED…SOME AS LOW AS $65!

GAP JUST RELEASED THESE POPULAR UNDER-$30 RUNNING SHORTS IN NEW COLORS, INCLUDING CAN’T-GO-WRONG BLACK

LOVE THE LOOK OF THIS FITNESS SKORT

A FUN LITTLE SUN VISOR — BOUGHT THESE FOR MY MOM AND I (SOLD AS SET OF TWO)

LOVE TNUCK’S NEW SPORT COLLECTION — ESPECIALLY THEIR CHINTZ PIECES AND BOTANICAL SHORTS

CUTEST TENNIS BAG

A THROWBACK PIQUE TENNIS DRESS

ANOTHER GOOD TENNIS DRESS FROM VENUS WILLIAMS’ NEW LINE!

AND OF COURSE THIS GORGEOUS STARK WHITE!

WILL I LOOK AS GOOD AS HALLE BERRY IN THESE SHORTS?!

COTTON TERRY GYM SHORTS — SURPRISINGLY CHIC, AS ARE THESE SIMILAR ONES (COME IN GREAT COLORS)

THIS SHORT SLEEVED ATHLETIC TEE COMES IN THE BEST COLORS

THIS $24 TENNIS SKIRT

MY FAVORITE CROPPED TANK (LOOK FOR LESS WITH THIS $23 STEAL WITH LIKE 35K FIVE STAR REVIEWS)

For little ladies learning to play tennis: this TH (love the navy stripe on the pleated skirt), this Adidas, this $20 Target steal, seersucker athletic shorts, this gorgeous gingham, printed floral athletic shorts, and this ric rac trim beauty. And how great is this child’s racket? Perfect in a cute little tennis backpack.

For little men learning to play: these retro shorts are one of my favorite things Hill owns (look for less with these); this performance tee; Cadets club shorts; and if tennis whites are required, these shorts or these (with a free monogram!!) and this polo.

And loads of tennis whites for boys and girls here.

And for your man: these shorts (dressier) or these (more performance-oriented).

P.S. “If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave.”

P.P.S. Adjacent to this post: summer sun protection finds for the entire family.

Yay, I’m glad you love the Girlfriend Collective bikers! I have them in black and navy and love, love them. I am bookmarking this post as my 10-y-o stepdaughter has recently been very interested in acquiring more tennis skirts (she doesn’t play, but she has a couple of hand-me-downs from her cousins and loves wearing them!) I want to get her one for her birthday and am trying to find one that’s white, at least partially pleated, and under $60 (ish). She has one from Lululemon that she loves, but I don’t think they make it anymore! Let me know if you stumble upon any contenders!

xx

Fashion Magpie,
Help! I just turned 65 and struggling what to wear on dates (widow) and work (teacher). Something fun, easy to throw on in the heat (California is home)and to bop around town. I am 5’8, healthy with an athletic body. Designers that work for me: theory, Vince, Anthropology, Splendid, Free people, J crew, Sandro esq style. Preppy with an edge that is trendy and affordable. I am lost, I love the styles that are out with the smocking, ruffles but I just can’t rock it. Help this woman in fashion slump.

I have been following you for years and your style, suggestions, and recommendations. I have scored on many of them and always look forward on your daily posts.

I have enjoyed your authenticity with your children and how we are all just doing the best we can. Btw your kiddos are adorable and I know how much love they receive and give. It just gets better the older they get.
I have a granddaughter and have bought many many many of your recs . I love keeping our littles and you knock it out of the park all the time in your post.

Just want you to know that I appreciate you and what you give to all of your followers.

Good luck on your move, and looking forward to reading all about it.

Have a beautiful day, and enjoy your littles and the sunshine that they bring to you.
Carol
