Weekend Vibes, Edition No. 196: Pedicure Tools + Former Selves.

By: Jen Shoop

*Love the look of the narrow galley kitchen above — very NYC — and especially the Oriental runner rug. Get the look with this (on sale!). And some great gear for small apartments here as well as luxuries for even the smallest home here.

My Latest Snag: The Pedicure Tool.

Thanks to a reader’s suggestion on this post a few days ago, I just got my hands on one of these Amope electronic foot files. The reviews are strong and I can really use some help thanks to closing in on a YEAR without a professional pedicure. (Haaaalp!) I’ll share a full review once I’ve tested thoroughly but I’m very excited. Does anyone have a foot mask she swears by?

You’re Sooooo Popular: Bobbi Brown Lip Tint Trio.

The most popular items on le blog this week:

+My beloved Bobbi Brown lip tints, for the second week running — these are still discounted!

+Must-have basic: pima turtleneck.

+Lululemon Aligns! (I think most of you agree with their incredible quality.)

+Mason Pearson brushes, on rare sale! (Still select items available.)

+One of my favorite baskets for home organization.

+Basically anything you can find still in stock by Ooly — this is a top-selling brand this holiday season!

+My favorite sheet set.

+Slip eye masks (on sale!)

+Most comfortable underwear.

+My favorite running shoes (on sale!)

+Sweet holiday angel decor.

+Cocofloss! Great stocking stuffer.

Weekend Musings: A Quote from HRH Joan Didion.

In a Zoom book club meeting this past week, I made the splashy and absurd comment that Joan Didion is the most intelligent woman on earth. (But, like, she might be…?) Afterward, I revisited a comment of hers that I had written in the margins of my notebook:

“I think we are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not.”

For me, it is partly a reminder to take full responsibility for myself and my past — a nudge that says: “You might imagine yourself a different person, and you might well be one! — but you must also carry who you were with you.”

What do you think? How do you react to this?

Post-Scripts: Toddler Shoes.

+Mini seems to be on a foot growth schedule where she needs a new pair of shoes in the middle of each season — ahhh! Currently in the market for new shoes in all categories for her, and these are my top picks:

SCALLOPED BALLET FLATS

VEJA X LIBERTY LONDON SNEAKERS OR PRINTED SUPERGAS — MINI WOULD GET A KICK OUT OF BOTH OF THESE

LOLA & THE BOYS STAR SHOES — NOT NORMALLY MY VIBE BUT THESE CAUGHT MY EYE AS SOMETHING FUN

JANIE & JACK TODDLER SPARKLE BOOTIES

AGE OF INNOCENCE BOOTS — DYING OVER SO MANY STYLES FROM THIS LABEL…HOW TO JUSTIFY PRICE GIVEN THAT WE ARE MID-SEASON?!

HUNTER RAINBOOTS — LOVE IN THE LILAC OR PINK COLORS

SPERRY BOOTS ON SALE FOR ALMOST 40% OFF

+Most perfect COVID-private-ceremony wedding dress there ever was

+OK, this boucle robe looks like a dream…more specifically, a Barefoot Dreams throw (ha). This brand keeps coming up (apparently they are tremendously popular) so I polled my Instagram readers and the overwhelming response was that people secretly LOVE these ultra-soft, plush blankets (<<50% off here. Sometimes it says SOLD OUT but I have seen they come back available every few times I’ve checked).

+These double bow earrings are AMAZING.

+Such a fun winter statement sweater! As is this one — only $20!

+I swore by this Clarins body oil during pregnancy. Currently 15% off. I think stretch marks might be genetic, but I had none — whether this oil helped or not I do not know BUT it was still clutch for my dry, stretched, uncomfortable, itchy skin. Deeply hydrating. I’ve turned at least two dozen women on this stuff while pregnant.

+Fancy hand sanitizer if you need a little pick me up. I love this brand.

+Sweetest embroidered hairbows for little ones.

+OMG! Gucci uggs! On sale! How fun…

+Speaking of Gucci on sale, these boots are also seriously spectacular.

+Super fun puffer coat.

+Just the prettiest set of eye shadows! Such a dramatic presentation if you’re looking for a show stopping gift for a cosmetics-lover.

+Anyone else purging/organizing their children’s rooms in advance of the holidays? (<<Tips here.)

+I write this while it’s flurrying outside! Time to invest in that snow gear if you haven’t already.

+Holiday gifts for babies (mainly focused on around a year of age).

+I keep coming back to this sweet dress

  1. I love that Didion quote โ€” it rings true for me, and I appreciate the reminder to honor my past selves, even as I’ve grown & evolved (one can hope, at least!)

I have a handful of Everlane’s pima micro rib tops and I LOVE THEM … they’re the first I reach for when looking for an under-layer to go under my wool sweaters. Love.

The Liberty Vejas are BEYOND! I want these in my size ๐Ÿ™‚ Would also wear the Supergas in the ‘flowers & rabbits’ print … what does this say about me?! lol

Also, that Carolina Herrera dress (maybe paired WITH the Nicola Bathie bows?!) is truly the stuff of dreams. Must remember to check Moda Operandi more often!!

    xx

  2. My love affair with Didion has no bounds, so I support your ‘splashy’ claim (also enjoy your use of the word splashy)! I actually read ‘On Self Respect’ every year on my birthday to remind myself of those important sentiments.

Also: I once heard someone ask, “Are you a Didion or an Ephron?” and as much as I’d want to be Didion, I think I fall into the latter category. I’m simply not cool enough

    1. Oh yes – I so agree. Both of them are impossibly cool and bright in unattainable ways. Love your “On Self Respect” ritual!! Lovely. xx

  3. Hi there. I like & have gifted the Whole Foods 365 foot mask. Used the foot masks a few times at the beginning of lockdown & gave to my sister & her friends.

  4. So many good things here today! I really like the line of frames along side the window in the galley kitchen. Usually Iโ€™m not a fan of asymmetry in home design but I like the use of space! Might try in my own tiny kitchen. That CH โ€œweddingโ€ dress is amazing! Reminds me of my own wedding, the bridesmaids wore that same pale blue. And I think that puffer jacket in navy would let me live out my US winter Olympic team dreams! Although Iโ€™d never actually be cut out for winter sports, Iโ€™m too chicken. Have you ever noticed that the summer Olympic events are about how strong/fast/etc you are, while the winter events are mostly how strong/fast/etc you are while riding on a death trap at incredible speeds and heights??? No thank you. But I love to watch! Perhaps while wearing my new star spangled puffer jacket ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. HAHA – Stephanie, your observation of the distinction between winter and summer olympics is hilarious. So true. Let’s do this at breakneck speed…while on ice, 500 feet in the air. Horrifying! But agree that the star spangled puffer is chic enough to almost make me want to try something alpine and sporty…

      xx

      1. Oh and also — love everything about the kitchen above and totally agree the column of frames makes the space look so lived-in and cozy and eccentric! Go for it ๐Ÿ™‚

        xx
