Things I Find Randomly Chic: Summer Edition.

By: Jen Shoop

I’m back with another list of chic things, this time focused on summer:

Silver coupes with sorbet (bonus points for a champagne float and fresh mint garnish)

Claus Porto bar soaps in the lettuce or brise marine scents

A perfectly executed dive (continuously impressed when adults do this at our pool)

Button-downs tempered by bare feet and baseball caps

A farmer’s market basket laden with soft cheese, a baguette, a bundle of basil, cherries and nectarines and anything else in-season and grown local

Afternoon thunderstorms, especially when they approach over a lake

Corded headphones (I can’t explain why but yes)

A thin spaghetti strap against tanned skin

Mayonnaise with French fries

White negronis

The Eastern Shore in general — it is meant to exist in summer

A whole sea bream grilled and served with lemon (bonus points if it is table-filleted with a spoon and fork by a waiter in a European restaurant)

A vintage mass-market paperback novel with yellowed edges, creased at the spine and dotted-through with seawater, SPF, and marginalia (think Valley of the Dolls, The Old Man and The Sea)

An outdoor shower

Gildas and an ice-cold glass of cava

Sweaters with shorts or swimwear

Freshly torn herbs folded into a mound of lettuce, dressed with a mustard vinaigrette

“Matcha strawberry makeup” (c.f. RMS Beauty)

Summer updos: piled on top of the head (devil may care) or slicked back into a bun (fresh from the pool)

Anything that can be worn sans bra

Homemade strawberry shortcakes with an uninhibited amount of freshly whipped cream

“The Summer Wind” by Madeleine Peyroux during an candlelit al fresco dinner

Card games played to cicada song (not a screen in sight)

Analog everything

Low to zero expectations for productivity or plans — let the day unfold comme il faut

+Things I find randomly chic: home edition.

+Our favorite offbeat seasonal rituals.

+Harbingers and heralds.

Shopping Break.

+New Donni launch yesterday, and these taffeta shorts are flying. May be sold out by the time this goes live! I’m bummed I miss in my size. I would have gotten the blue.

+This skirt is SO CHIC in every single one of the 14 colors/patterns, but I especially love it in the gingham. Look for less here. (Back to Suzie Kondi: I’m currently writing this in my terry Tilos sweatshirt and Paxos pants. I’m absolutely obsessed with this set. Runs a tad small – I’d go up if in question. The new tomato red color is SO GOOD.)

+Important restock/selling fast note: the best, thickest, chicest scoopneck tank. Runs TTS and is opaque. Use code jenshoop for 15% off. This is perfect for pairing with the full skirts above.

+Love this gingham poplin shell. It’s very much in conversation with the Donni vibe — pair with white barrel leg jeans. (While you’re there, snap up these sealife-motif beach pants!)

+A couple of new Prime Day deals I came across yesterday: the best-scented laundry detergent (I reserve for sheets and towels), Claus Porto soaps, this pebble ice maker (so, so tempted), and the best body lotion on the planet (the only thing I have on auto-ship right now at Amazon).

+A truly fab statement pant that could be worn for day or evening. (Use code JEN-15).

+Launched for pre-order this week: Devon jellies!

+Heads up that Boll and Branch is currently 20% off sitewide. We love their signature hemmed sheets (currently on our bed in the hydrangea color) but the last time I shared their vintage washed comforter set, so many of you ordered, and with good reason. It’s a really cool hybrid between a comforter and a duvet — super fluffy with a perfect weight, and has that lived-in handfeel. So, so good.

+Working on a longer guide to statement striped pants (lots of us bought these, and these ones from La Veste seem to be all over the street style set this summer), but a reasonably-priced pair I’m proud of sourcing: this $120 pair.

+Obsessed with the bandana print pareos from new-to-me brand Soleil Soleil. This one is in my cart. I’m not above wearing a pareo out and about (can’t tell how sheer these are) — I just tie super tight and pair with a white tee (this COS one is perfect for the look because it’s slightly cropped but a good heavy weight) and a leather sandal.

+For a hi-lo FOJ: this $25 linen mini with this sure-to-sell-out Americana sweater.

+Just discovered there are slides that match our favorite Romy purse family.

+Immediately ordered this limited edition set of Chris McMillan minis for travel. My general philosophy for travel is to use exactly what I like to use at home, and to buy it in the mini bottle whenever possible (I find things like serums, sprays, etc so difficult to decant), and wherever not possible, to decant into these little magnetic pods.
