How are we taking care of our hair this summer? One of my “resolutions” (very sparing with that term — but I really have put my mind to this goal!) when I turned 40 was to take better care of my hair, and to feel good about my hair on a daily basis. A good hair day can change so much…!
This summer, I have been really leaning into Crown Affair’s Smoothing Air Dry Cream on those days where a blowout is unrealistic. Between exercising most mornings and spending most afternoons at the pool, it’s just not realistic (or healthy for my hair) to blow-dry every time I shower. This makes air-dried hair look sexy and intentional versus crimpy and chaotic. I comb through towel-dried hair and then re-apply at the ends once hair is fully dry to give a little more separation/definition. The first time my mom saw me with my hair like this, she said: “Oh! 06. Anti-inch calming lotion — just added this to our summer medicine cabinet.
07. This bug balm — a cleaner bug repellent solution.
08. Cleansing body polish — I just got myself a tub of this and am already obsessed with it. Sloughs off SPF and sweat but without overly drying things out. Smells amazing, too. This brand has such great, thoughtful products with good ingredients in them.
09. Plush marine shower oil — a received this in a PR mailing earlier this year and am now on my second bottle. You apply in-shower and it leaves your skin so silky and hydrated. The smell is fantastic, too.
10. Another exfoliating go-to, aside from the OSEA (which, BTW, would make a great hostess gift for someone at a beach house!): this exfoliating buffing bar. It’s pretty abrasive so you have to go gentle but it gives you an outrageous amount of shine/glow. I like to use on my shoulders.
11. Tatcha milky sunscreen. The best facial SPF I’ve ever tried. Absorbs instantly, leaves no white-cast or residue. A thin fluid formula. SO GOOD. I’ve turned Landon onto this.
12. This Cyklar body lotion is everything to me. It’s the only thing I have on Amazon auto-ship these days! I love the nostalgic scent.
13. My go-to everyday summer skin tint — adds SPF, glow, and a bit of coverage. (use code JEN20)
14. My remove-the-day miracle facial wipes.
15. I typically use a gentler face wash, but in the summer, find I lean into this mildly-exfoliating face wash. It feels SO good on the skin, smells insane (like citrus), but does not leave skin overly dry. I love the formula. The other face wash I’ve been loving this summer: this oil-to-cream cleanser. I alternate between the Tata and this stuff based on how dry my skin feels on a given day. I love this formula — it comes out of the pump like an oil but converts into this sort of foamy/milky texture that feels wonderful on the skin.
16. Lightweight hydration perfect for summer. I love Tatcha products!
17. I mentioned the Yves Durif brush up top, but I also think this fancy French brush is independently worth it. It’s great for restoring volume and shine in the afternoon — less for detangling. Love.
18. In between washings, I use a combo of this Kerastase dry shampoo (I spritz all over the lengths of my hair) and this Crown Affair dry shampoo powder (focused on the roots).
19. For “restaurant hair” / beach hair / second day hair — I swear by Blanche hair perfume.
20. I’m a broken record here, but this blow-dry spray is ELITE and I ordered the glassy smooth hair oil sister product while it was on sale last week.
21. Still a long-time devotee and enormous believer in the K18 molecular repair hair mask. I basically use every washing. It makes hair so soft and happy.
22. This lip softening balm is always in my bag.
23. Crown Affair overnight hair repair serum. I apply the night before I know I’m going to work out. It really helps with hair condition/quality.
24. Feels like a cold plunge: the cryo-flash cream mask. It’s 20% off right now! This feels SO GOOD and gives your skin this lifted, firmed feeling.
25. For curly hair, my SIL swears by Aveda’s anti-humectant pomade.
