The Long White Dress.

By: Jen Shoop

I have this thing for long white dresses.  I can’t resist the bold statement, and I love that you can accent in a million different ways with a million different accessories/colors (or go monochrome).  I mean, COME ON:

The problem is that I’ve been going to so many weddings over the past few years that I rarely find an occasion to wear them that won’t interfere with the bride-to-be’s prerogative.  I committed the ultimate faux pas by totally forgetting about this rule and wearing a white mini to my sister’s bachelorette in Miami (which was…epic), but she’s super chill and didn’t mind.  Woopsiedoodles.  But GUYS.  My 32nd birthday is coming up (in six months, ha) and I may be heading out to Napa for a trip with all of my siblings and their significant others and babies.  So my mind has been running wild with options and I can’t help but think this may be THE occasion to pull out the stops and where a long white maxi that won’t upstage any bride.  And so, my dear friends, I give you…the ultimate (Self-Portrait, $640):

Check it out when on a model — a high slit, an elegant high neck, lovely pleats.  It’s just beyond.  I actually came across this beauty after I’d already bought this Temperley London find (on sale for $495 at Net-A-Porter, WUUUUTTTT):

I thought it was ridiculously elegant and old world — something from the 20s, perhaps, and something a 32 year old might wear, especially with an epic tan — and was super disappointed to find that I was SWIMMING in it when it arrived.  Like, way, way, way too much fabric and the tie at the neck added too much volume.  Womp womp.  So that went back, but it’s maybe for the best because now I can legitimize the purchase of the SP dress above.  Speaking of SP, that label just don’t QUIT.  There’s also this great alternative ($444).  The contrast of the black belt is coolio.

Other styles I am contemplating:

+Alice and Olivia is my go-to for pretty much any occasion.  This dress (on sale for $308) would look KILLER with a great tan and beachy waves.

+This Halston Heritage (on sale for $367) caught my eye with its hi-low coolness.  I kind of imagined myself in a flash with a high bun and a great bold lip when I saw it.

+This white lace jumpsuit (DVF, $990) would be the talk of the decade.  KILLER.  KILLER.

+I cannot get over the back of this gown ($575).  Probably way too fancy for my imagined Napa birthday, but that BACK.

In terms of accents…first off, ZOMG.  This vintage Chanel lucite clutch (a casual $16K) makes me die.

Maybe with this KJL lariat necklace ($276)?!  And these Aquazzura sandals ($675).  And these ear crawlers ($175):

+I just gotta gush over my favorite shoe of this past summer, Alexandre Birman’s leather sandal ($595).  I wore them a billion and ten times.

+My dream clutch (YSL, $1,150).

+These Aquazzuras are SO FUN ($785).  I just want to go out dancing when I see them.

+This funky lucite clutch is on sale for 50% off (now $533).

+Fun tassels (Eddie Borgo, on sale for $163):
