The Fall 2026 Outerwear Edit: Quilted Liner Jackets, Wool Coats

Hard to believe, but fall is not far off, and the time is nigh to snag a great jacket for the season. The cold weather always sneaks up on you, and then one morning, you realize all of the sudden you need that top layer! Below, sharing my favorite outerwear finds to wear now through true fall. Some of the big trends I’m noticing: patterned quilted jackets and dramatic shawl collars. Lots of details!

Lighter Weight Styles to Wear Now Through Fall.

Layer over a tank top now / throw over shoulders for some dimension, and then use as a true third layer come cold weather.

02. The eyelet details on this jacket are SO good. OMG! I’d love this over a simple white tank with white jeans right now, but would look epic over a fall floral dress and boots in a couple weeks.

03. Love the sporty look of this popover jean jacket. I’ve been actually noticing a lot of those funnel neck / mock neck collars lately. Toteme has a whole suite of jackets with this neckline out now, too. I think the denim is so cool and would look amazing paired with navy leggings and cool sneakers for school dropoff.

04. This gingham Barbour is an unexpected twist on a classic! The cinching at the waist and the contrast suede collar are such fabulous details.

05. Flattering belted jacket. I absolutely adore this style! Another trend I’ve been noticing this fall: belted sweaters and jackets! This fits squarely in that category.

07. Cropped blue bubble jacket. (The bandana print continues to reign supreme!)

08. Great lightweight option here. Sporty but could be worn with daywear, too. No one walks that line like Varley!

10. A modern twist on a barn jacket — I especially love it in the denim.

11. Luxe satin cropped jacket. The styling on the site opened up a whole new world of opportunities. Not just for evening! Pair with jeans or pull-on poplin pants for a cool vibe.

12. Taffeta parka. Taffeta is having such a moment right now — who is her publicist?! Hehe.
