Bizarrely enough, I didn’t wear belts for the first 3/4 of the my life. I just never felt called to them? I didn’t get how to style them? I felt that they sometimes broke up versus enhanced a silhouette? They seemed a little old fashioned in some way? But in my late 30s I changed my tune, and this season in particular, I’ve been loving statement belts — they instantly pull a look together and can add either polish or edge depending on what you’re going for. I have specifically been loving layering my Aureum No. 2 belt (sold out in my exact color, but available in this cool bewejeled variation that is VERY on trend for the season; similar look for less to my exact belt here) over my fall dresses (see here and here!) or cinching my jeans with this cult-favorite Dehanche belt (seen above; look for less with this). I also wore the latter over a denim shirtdress for back to school night and felt it really added interest to the look (see below; all outfit details here).
Fall Belt Trends.
I’ve been generally noticing a lot of Western inspo on the belt front — studs, turquoise, big buckles! I am loving in particular the belts with gemstone accents — this, this! I saw the ultra-chic Nicole Cassidy style this Ralph Lauren Western-style belt with a dress last winter and haven’t stopped thinking about it. Keeping an eye for similar, and stalking TRR.

I also have never been a big belt person, but this post is reminding me that I have a great vintage belt from my dad with a big brass buckle featuring a 3 masted schooner on it. It gives “New England cowboy” in a great way and now I’m inspired to dig it back out for fall!
