Magpie Meet-Ups This Fall. (The Small Wonders Book Tour Continues!)

By: Jen Shoop

I am so excited to share that we’ve coordinated a couple of additional special evenings to celebrate Small Wonders and this Magpie community! If you weren’t able to attend one of the events during leg one of my book tour, can I beg you to come join me at one this fall? These have been incredibly special events, with Magpies connecting with one another, enjoying a glass of wine (usually poured by Mr. Magpie), and talking about all things books, creativity, motherhood, etc. I will have special treats at each event, too. What I learned from leg one of the tour was that these evenings are really more about celebrating our community: almost all attendees are routine blog readers, and it is such an honor to meet so many of you who have shaped my life via your consistent readership, commenting, and encouragement.

The timing for this second set of Small Wonders conversations felt perfect to me. After the unstructured sprawl of summer — travel, later bedtimes, looser plans — I think many of us feel ready to clip back into a morning routine that gives us time to center ourselves and our days. (My morning non-negotiables come fall: reading, a little time outside, and some movement.) Can I propose Small Wonders as a companion in your autumnal get-back-to-center routine? I was surprised to learn that many Magpies use the book as a meditation or journaling prompt in the morning, opening to a page and seeing what it draws out. It can also serve as a simple thought-starter as you’re revving your morning engine, or as a gift for a mom friend or teacher preparing for the new school year (you might dog ear page 103: “Notes to Self on Motherhood,” which is mainly about waking up each morning eager to try again). A lot of the writing, I realized after the fact, is about finding grace in times of transition, and speaks to seasonal shifts like the one we’re bound for.

I’d be so honored if you’d give it a try in your own fall morning routine and let me know what you think. The book is, still, mysteriously, $13 on Amazon (I have nothing to do with pricing) but you can also order a signed copy here. I’ve been tucking in special prints with those orders while I have some on hand.

+Behind the scenes on publishing a book. (How I became a published author!)

+Things that are just part of the process. (Keep going anyway!)

+My best advice on pursuing a creative career.

Shopping Break.

+If you missed out on that Gap bandana cardigan (it went FAST), you might consider this similar under-$200 style.

+These “slim-wide” jeans from J. Crew have been super popular among Magpies.

+This is THE coolest dressy sweatshirt, and it’s on sale. The silhouette and slightly raised neckline are everything.

+Eyeing this dress for fall. Just adore the pattern, which also comes in a blouse and mini dress format.

+Drooling over these fall boots to pair with the aforementioned pieces. SWOON.

+Negative’s waffle knit series in the mink color is perfect for fall.

+This time of year, I go big on making lists. I just found this cute meal planner from one of my favorite paper companies. Anytime I share a photo of this notepad, I get questions! (Meanwhile, their vinyl alphabet stickers are a great way to personalized school tupperware / water bottles / computers / etc!, and I thought these notepads would make a cute teacher gift.) Use code JEN10 for 10% off sitewide.

+Tassel/fringe details are everywhere this fall, and I’m digging these tiger’s eye earrings to pair with everything for the season ahead. Also reflecting this nano-trend: this seriously cool wool blazer and this spectacular Ulla.

+Loving this Julia Amory dress in the new martini green color.

+Ordered myself Rhode’s new tinted highlight milk!

+Fun marbleized iPhone cases for a refresh. Use code SUMMER20 for a discount.

+Spendy, but these are the best-fitting and best-looking performance uniform pants I’ve found for my slim son.

+LOL this Analog boat and tote.
