More broadly, it’s interesting to reflect on the rules and rituals we cultivate so that we can cultivate ourselves. What do we need to be our best and most generative selves? What helps us court curiosity?

+I WAS A SECRET GARGEN GIRL: This made me laugh. You might recall I had a strong attachment to The Secret Garden when I was little. Colin in the garden! Fun to complete the sentence yourself: “Some girls were horse girls — I was a _____ girl.” (I was also in general a bad book girl.)

+I had coffee with a friend this week, and she shared that she’d just bought herself this gorgeous sapphire baguette ring from Jenni Kayne. It looked so beautiful mixed in with the rest of her jewelry — I was swooning! I also had no idea Jenni Kayne sold jewelry?! +ELDEST DAUGHTERS: My friend Mackenzie did one of those “Unfortunately, I do love…” posts that I’ve seen a lot of creatives share, and I loved her note about “99% of her friends being fellow eldest daughters.” Any eldest daughters out there? (I am one!) I feel like us Magpies in general have an eldest daughter energy — responsible, thoughtful, accustomed to carrying burdens that aren’t ours to carry, told that we were “mature for our ages” when we were 8, capable of identifying tension in a room before anyone has said anything. Birth order is fascinating to me, and I am especially intrigued by the prototype of the eldest daughter and the attention she is getting at the moment. Did you see that Taylor Swift has a track on her upcoming album in our honor? —
