+MISCHIEF!: This week, I went up to New York to record a podcast with my friend Nan. If you haven’t yet listened to her podcast, Noteworthy with Nan, which just launched a few weeks ago, you’re in for a treat! She is such a delightful and earnest conversationalist. We could have talked for hours in her beautiful studio on the Upper East Side, and in fact, when her producer, Drew, was prepping us for the interview, he had to say: “Wait, wait, hold it for the podcast!” After we’d finished recording, I was preparing to leave, and Drew said: “Wait, I have a Magpie fact. Did you know that a group of Magpies is called a Mischief?” Somehow, I did not, but I absolutely love this detail and the fact that he stopped me to share it. I am of course thinking we need some sort of swag that says MISCHIEF on it. Or maybe that’s what we call the bad book girl club? My mind is going in all different directions with this delightful morsel of information. The cheeky magpie troupe!
+MAGPIE ART: Speaking of Magpies, look at this beautiful magpie my friend Mamey painted for me for a new habit tracker we’ll be releasing at the end of this summer. I feel so lucky and lifted to be surrounded by creative spirits.

+NEW A24 MOVIE: Intrigued by this trailer purely based on the talented cast! (Also, LOL at Edward Norton: “You mean I don’t sound like Javier?”)
+OLIVIA RODRIGO + THE ELDER MILLENNIAL SPIRIT: The Apple album notes describe Olivia Rodrigo as “a pop savant,” which is a perfect coinage: I am head over heels obsessed with her new album. I’ve been listening to it on repeat the past week. I know it’s music for the younger crowd, but all the millennial music references make it irresistible to me! The guitar at the beginning of “the cure” sounds so similar to “Everlong” that I keep waiting for the Foo Fighters to jump on. And “u + me = <3” is tailor-made for a high school movie montage (think “Can’t Hardly Wait,” “10 Things I Hate about You,” etc.). I love that song so much that I found myself daydreaming about a “third creative act” I sometimes ponder in which I write a screenplay adapting “The Secret Garden” to a teenage romance set in the 90s. Neighbors who fall in love. This song would obviously accompany the opening montage scene.
If you listen to nothing else on the album, though, do tune in to: “What’s Wrong with Me,” her spectacular duet with Robert Smith of The Cure.
+NEW SUMMER SNEAKERS FOR KIDS: Just ordered my kids fresh kicks for the summer: these for my son and these for my daughter. In my search, I found several punchy summer styles (almost all of the ones shown below) discounted over at Zappos right now! I’ll say it again: I find the On brand outlast almost any other brand I’ve tried. I think the quality is incredible.

ON CLOUDNOVA SNEAKERS // NIKE FLORAL SWOOSHES // NEW BALANCES // COLORBLOCKED NIKES // ON CLOUDPLAY SNEAKERS // NIKE HEARTS
+METERING WHISTLER: I’m in the last ten pages or so of Ann Patchett’s Whistler and I’m positively wrecked that it’s over and that I’ll have to wait another couple of years for more Ann magic. I keep thinking of something Julian Barnes wrote: “When you read a great book, you don’t escape from life, you plunge deeper into it.” I find her writing draws me closer to the beating heart of living and loving. It observes people and their motivations so keenly. I cannot wait to discuss in our book club “mischief” next month!
