End of Summer To Dos.

By: Jen Shoop

BLTs and bare feet;

Morning nature walks with my children, before the meridian heat crawls in;

Add at least one “lifer” bird to my Apple Note on the subject (most recent entry: great crested grebe, spotted in Trondheim, Norway, July 2026);

Let my thoughts leap from lily pad to lily pad without interruption;

Afternoon Racko sessions with my son on the back patio, listening to Tucker Wetmore;

Write 500 words towards my fictional project at least 3x a week;

Let go of hard feelings;

Subscribe to the Anne Lamott credo of grace and humor in all things;

Evening happy hours that consist of Sade on the turntable, frosty blueberry basil gin lemonades, no screens, and cubes of that really good alpine cow’s milk cheese from The Organic Butcher (locals — seek this out);

At least one adult pool date with Landon;

Melt a bit — just generally go soft and easy on life;

Early morning runs along my favorite neighborhood circuit to catch the tail end of crepe myrtle bloom — one of my favorite micro-seasons in Bethesda;

Finish the latest Maggie O’Farrell (excellent so far), preferably outside;

Channel Woolf: “No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself”;

Keep a book of Wednesday crossword puzzles open on the kitchen counter to idle over whenever I’m passing through;

Eat afternoon cherries on the top step of my back patio;

Let the soft animal of my body love what it loves (Mary Oliver);

Suppress the self-critical in favor of the generative: but you tried, and what did you learn? and so that’s finished; well-done, you

What is the best part of your day?

Shopping Break.

Two great looks for less for the R+B sweatpant jeans (<<this new colorway is SO GOOD): these (love the track stripe down the side!) and these.

Ordered this blouse for fall.

Obsessed with this cardigan. I got it at the beginning of summer and love that it adds dimension / pattern contrast. Can’t wait to get more wear out of it as we head towards cooler weather. Comes in three really fab color combos. (I also found a few pieces from this exquisite cashmere brand deeply discounted here and here.)

STOP this might be the chicest suede jacket I’ve ever seen. In the blue?!

This eyeshadow in the rosewater color is SO GOOD. Wakes up the entire eye area and you can swipe on with a finger. I now wear daily!

This tennis-motif shawl sweater is SO fun.

A couple sizes left of these highly on-trend “flight” pants — hard to find in stock!

It’s super difficult to find Skinceuticals on sale, but found the holy grail vitamin C on sale for 15% off here.

Another knit on my radar: recent restock of a great under-$200 cashmere cardi in fab transition-to-fall colors.

Ordered one of these fun desk pads for my old, chipped white writing desk!

Extremely impressed with the quality of this luggage rack I put in our guest bedroom!

Love the colors and bandana motif in this scarf.

Big fan of Jane Win’s coin pendants (I have a few, but the one I wear most often is courage) — and loveeee this new horse motif!

Chic linen mandarin collar jacket in a great fall color.

This formal dress is STUNNING. I can’t stop thinking of it. Have nowhere to wear it!
