Classic Style: The Tweed Jacket.

By: Jen Shoop

One day, I will invest in a Chanel tweed jacket. I love that they work on any age, are seemingly fad-proof, and can be dressed up or down as well as made to feel either edgy or classic. See above and below for inspo. Many of these chic peas demonstrate beautifully how well this jacket can transform jeans and a tee!

PADDED TWEED HEADBAND OPTION 1 OR 2

Of course, all of these would look unreal with a vintage Chanel bag. Love this timeless navy moment but something about this multicolored one makes my heart sing. And you can get the look for less with a Caterina Bertini bag — I love it in the white woven (on sale for under $100) or beige!

I also feel compelled to note that Hill House has a back-to-school drop coming up on September 9th; you can see the line sheet here, and plan accordingly. I was planning on holding out to see what tartans and velvets they have up their sleeve for the holidays but I think I really must have their brand new Cher dress (see below) for sure in the tartan but maybe also in that fabulous coconut tweed?!?!?! AHHHHH j’adore les deux! I want to wear both with a turtleneck and opaque tights and maybe these heels for a serious throwback to Gossip Girl / Clueless moment. Can you tell I’m obsessing over the return of 90s fashion?!

  1. Ahhh the tweed jacket — so classy and timeless! I love how they were styled in these pictures, particularly with the simple tee, light wash wide leg denim, and cap-toe shoes. Making a mental note on this outfit! I have an inexpensive tweed jacket from Banana Republic from several years ago that I still love to use, and I’ve been happy with how it has withstood many seasons of wear! But I’m intrigued by Ann Mashburn as your reader Sarah has recommended. I love learning about new-to-me labels/designers from you and your readers!

  2. Sigh…. something so elegant and beautiful about a Chanel tween jacket! Definitely on my lust list and has been for awhile. In the meantime I may satisfy myself with some of your great picks!

    1. Agreed – so classic and elegant but can still be styled to be a bit more contemporary/even edgy! Amazing versatile workhorse. I’m in your same boat – one day I’ll get there, maybe at some major milestone?, but until then — buying some of these lesser priced but still chic finds!

      1. I so hear this!! I would reach for my go-to J. Crew Essential tee…right now, sold out in white, but I have about five of this exact tee in white, and then a few other colors (navy, black):

I also have been eyeing these Mango tees:

After seeing them styled in the second two photos here:

For me, the key is a super lightweight feel. I don’t want to feel like a stuffed sausage — ha! — so I’d want something non-bulky, thin, etc. J. Crew’s tee definitely fits this bill. Will investigate the Mango!

    1. I’ve been loving Target’s Universal Thread crew tees! Not too thin nor too heavy, and they just skim the body nicely. All for something like $8!!

I also like the basic tees from Uniqlo, I believe they are $15.

      1. Merci!!! I’ve been meaning to try the Uniqlo tees for a long time. I know so many people swear by them — are they thick though? The images look that way so I’ve hesitated.

    2. Re: Uniqlo tees — mine are from a few years back, and for me they are the perfect thickness. Not as thick as J. Crew’s perfect tees (which I find quite thick) but thicker than the slub cotton kind of fabric (which wears down so quickly).

    1. Oo – thanks, Sarah! Had not seen this. We shop at Sid Mashburn for my husband but haven’t ventured much over to the Ann side, and now wondering why not! Thank you!

      xx
