Wrapped, Part I: Gifts for the Glamor Girl and the Book Worm

By: Jen Shoop

In this first installment of a multi-part “gifting guru” series, I am going to share some of my top picks for Christmas gifts for this season.  In today’s post, I geared my choices towards the Marilyns and Jackies in my life — i.e., the Glamor Girls and Book Worms.  I feel that a lot of my friends fall into one of the two categories.  In later posts, I’ll tackle gifts for other folks, like the Betty Crockers in your life 🙂

There are a lot of girly girls in my life, and I shopping for them.  Nothing more fun that receiving a glam little makeup palette ($40, Bobbi Brown) or a luxe lip color (Tom Ford is my new obsession — great colors, such luxe packaging — $45, Bergdorf’s) tucked into a cute little pouch ($160, Satine):

Or, for the sartorially-minded, check out these coffee table staples, which feature hundreds of Vogue covers from decades past ($91 apiece, Graphic Image):

And, get this — Graphic Image will personalize the book for you!  Love small, personal touches like that.  You’re entering insta-heirloom territory with a gift like that.  For a close girlfriend (don’t want to send the wrong message to someone…), I have been snapping up pretty little underthings left and right these days, and would absolutely love to give/receive one of these pretty little bralettes (Honeydew, $32, Madewell):

Would be cute rolled up and tied with a big satin ribbon, and then paired with a sleep mask ($25, Shopbop), some luxe body oil (OMG this stuff is amazing — I pop into the Blue Mercury on M St all the time to test it out, but can’t quite bite the bullet and fork over the cashiola to buy it for myself — $78, Blue Mercury):

In the same vein, consider gifting a silky robe (I love the leopard…surprise, surprise — $128, Victoria’s Secret — and think that Kim Kardashian was wearing it in last night’s debut of the new “Kim and Kourtney Take NY” series…I’m such a sucker for those reality shows):

Perfect packaged with a set of mini nail lacquers (Nars, $35, Beauty.com):

If your glamazon gal pal does lots of weekend traveling, I’ve had my eye on this well-priced carry-all for awhile (the perfect carry-on! — $53, ModCloth), which would be lovely on its own, or, if you’re a balla, with this cashmere travel set ($295, Sofia Cashmere):

Um, first of all, I pretty much DIE over these beautiful deco-style Penguin Classic hardcover versions of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s works ($25, Penguin Classics), which would be just gorgeous packaged in metallic tissue alongside this set of glam gold playing cards ($15, APlusRStore):

Lovely with a set of boxed stationery ($26, Kate Spade) and a ladylike pen (when I studied in France, all of my classmates used lovely, fountain writing implements — I immediately invested in a nicer pen, impressed by their attention to this smallscale extravagance — $15, Muji):

Or, if your bookworm is the e-reader type, consider offering her a snazzy iPad case ($50, Net-A-Porter) and a gift card to iBooks/iTunes:

Bundle it with some funky earbuds ($42, Shopbop) —

and maybe some eye-catching notebooks ($6 apiece, Kate’s Paperie) and a fun little pen ($18, Kate’s Paperie):

A snuggly reading throw would be a lovely addition to any bibliophile’s home ($60, Calypso), especially in a cheery color:

And, for fellow monogramaholics, consider offering a set of personalized book plates ($12.50 for 24, Tickled Pink Ink):

More to come later this week…but for now, enjoy CyberMonday!
