What I Would Wear, Vol II.

By: Jen Shoop

I had a lot of positive feedback on my post last week sharing what I’d plan / ideally wear to various events over the course of a week — several of you said it’s helpful to have styling ideas, or even a direction for what to wear to what. Bringing this back this week to share a couple of specific outings and occasions I’m dressing for —

What to Wear: Back to School Night.

ALIGNE DENIM DRESS* // LA DOUBLE J FRINGED SCARF // AMANU SANDALS // LEE RADZIWILL BAG // MARCH HARE WATCH // MEGA EARRINGS

*Something about dark wash denim feels very “back to school” to me, and I like that this dress isn’t too stuffy or too playful — right down the middle. Other options if you prefer a longer hemline: this Tuckernuck, this Boden, this sleeveless Aligne, or this VB. Definitely reach for a darker wash for this venue.

To me, this outfit is the perfect blend of down-to-earth and polished with a little surprise trend in the form of that fringed scarf! I keep coming back to it. I wore a variation of this exact outfit for my son’s back to school night (see here), sans the epic fringed scarf, swapping in this style from Maison LeComte.

What to Wear: Parents’ Cocktail Party.

BLAZE MILANO JACKET // ULLA JOHNSON DRESS (VIBE FOR LESS HERE) // VERONICA BEARD BAG // SCAROSSO SUEDE HEEL

This is such a good time to wear something FUN that communicates personality!

What to Wear: Mom Coffee Gathering.

ALTUZARRA TOP // ANN TAYLOR JACKET // AGOLDE JEANS // MARGAUX FLATS // LIFFNER BAG

The top is $$$ but I can’t get over that gold buckle. So dramatic! Similar look without the hardware here. I also like this look with a poplin button-down like this ($59) or this — the latter is so fabulous! I wore it this week and was obsessed with the fact that the sleeves are pre-scrunched/pre-stitched to hold at your elbow, so you don’t need to keep rolling them up all day.

What to Wear: Evening Event.

Whether a wedding, a fundraiser, a philanthropy event — I am loving all of these gorgeous satin dresses from Staud in autumnal hues, like the gold number below, this chocolate brown, and this sand-hued vision. Reformation has a great look for less in a similar vein.

STAUD DRESS // DORSEY EARRINGS // MOVADO WATCH // SAVETTE CLUTCH // PRADA HEELS* // FINDING FERDINAND LIP BALM

I am transfixed by these Prada heels. Look for less here, here. I’ve always been such a fan of a pointed toe!

What to Wear: Field Trip Chaperone.

RAG + BONE BUTTON-DOWN (USE JEN20 FOR EXTRA 20% OFF) // J. CREW SWEATER // CITIZENS PANTS (MORE HERE; LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // RDV TOTE // TORY BURCH SNEAKERS

What to Wear: Football Game.

I’m imagining this more for a let’s-watch-a-game-on-TV situation because you’ll probably want to wear your college colors (i.e., this sweater!) and need a stadium-ready bag, but — this is a perfect outfit for looking chic and casual while staying warm.

STAUD CASHMERE SWEATER* (VIBE FOR LESS HERE) // MOTHER HALF PIPE JEANS // NICOLA BATHIE HEART PENDANT // LOEFFLER RANDALL BOAT SHOES (MORE HERE, LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // ME + EM WOOL BALLCAP // ZARA SUEDE SHOPPER

*I saw a mom wearing this sweater this week and I immediately added it to my lust list. It hits at the perfect height when you’re wearing a higher waist pair of jeans, or something with a barrel/bowed leg where you want to show your waist. This is a great look for less. Staud also has this sweater in less-expensive non cashmere variations, including this $110 option (on sale!).

What to Wear: Carpool.

RL HAT // VARLEY HALF-ZIP* // VARLEY WIDE LEGS // RDV TOTE // ROTHYS CLOGS // TO-GO SMOOTHIE CUP

*Old Navy released a great look for less for this set here: sweatshirt, sweatpant.

Any other events or recurring situations you’re shopping for? Leave a comment / send me a note and I’ll incorporate into the next volume!

P.S. How do you help your kids reset?

P.P.S. A great dish to feed a party (in case you’re hosting a football game viewing!)

P.P.P.S. If I had an extra hour in my day, I hope I’d treat it like birthday money.

My son & his partner are (finally!) getting married at the Santa Barbara Courthouse in November. They indicated semi-formal, with a dinner after. I’m looking for a simple dress that would work but not too expensive ($200 max?). Would love some ideas!

We are headed to Copenhagen, and Belgium in November the week of Thanksgiving. I am in desperate need of a great coat probably one with a hood for rain and one when it is not. I love some of the Sezane Trenches but want to look chic and put together. Thanks so much,
