More Artemis-mission-related commentary I loved this week —

What a joy to witness all of it, including the awestruck, “I needed this” discourse around it. Even my children were transfixed; we watched the splashdown together, and my son wore his NASA tee (BTW, H&M has great NASA swag for kids right now — see also these) and my daughter drew the sketch below:

Other things I didn’t know I needed this week:
+To sit on the front stoop of my house and watch my husband teach my son how to ride a bike as he was saying: “you got it, buddy, you got it buddy!”;
+The man who was doing yard maintenance for a neighbor who paused to watch their biking progress and said: “your son’s going to remember this moment for the rest of his life”;
+A couple-day break from strength training;
+A warm Friday after a cold Thursday;
+The sudden bloom of our front-yard lilac;
+To wake up and not know what time it was (I don’t keep my phone on my nightstand) and then to hear the first birdsong and understand it must be close to dawn — it comforted me, knowing nature would always help me get my bearings, and that the earth was here first;
+The reminder that a bird never misses a daybreak occasion for praise;
+Petal confetti;
+My son, preparing for his first time riding on a big bike: “There will always be other tries”
What spoke to you this week?

My husband helping my son ride a two-wheeler
Sunday Shopping.
+20% off at Freda Salvador! A great occasion to snap up their iconic woven flats. Go with a bold color — cobalt, the marigold! You won’t regret it. I also love these uber-comfortable fisherman sandals.
+Loving Alex Mill’s brand-new Hudson pants (esp in the stripe, styled as shown, with a chunky knit).
+The bras I just mentioned are now on sale — 30% off with code SAVE30! I’ve heard such good things about this brand! I ordered in the lake blue.
+A super-handy purse silhouette. I’ve raved about this for years, but I love to bring a phone sling for a concert, traveling, any sort of day excursion. Mine is Celine but this is a great, less expensive option. I also think these colorful French ones would be fun for an even slimmer silhouette. (Quince has a fun look for less here.) I’m actually kind of obsessed with the latter brand — a friend of mine said she sees these all over France. How cute is this punchy saddle bag? Hermes vibes for less.
+At time of writing, these unbelievably delicious “fancy Mounds bars” are on sale. SO GOOD.
+Love this peach cover-up from Minnow. (Perfect over this suit; finish with a terry bag like this or — swoon — this — and one of these straw hats. The paracord detail!)
+This reminds me: paracord season is upon us! Love these necklaces. I own in navy but the colorful ones are so fun, too.
+Swooning over this boucle jacket with white jeans. And this pistachio green set…yes.
+OBSESSED with this hat.
+Pretty linen mini in a fun chartreuse color.
+Currently wearing this elegant knit set. J’adore.
+The color combo on this La Ligne is PERFECT.
+Chic white eyelet shorts at a great price. I’d pair with a striped sweater. (Look for less here.)
Small Wonders Bookmarks!
Also, just bursting with excitement, had to share these special bookmarks I had made for all of you Magpies attending book launch events this week and next! Can’t wait to hand these out IRL in just a few days! YAY!

Isn’t it magical the first time they wobble off on a two wheeler by themselves? And exhausting to jog along as they learn! Hope Mr Magpie got to put his feet up later, haha. I have one who’s afraid of falling and so still prefers her scooter…hoping she’ll be motivated to get back on the bike this summer.
PS – happy publication eve!! Will be thinking of you this week!
Thank you, friend! I’m just over the moon. Feeling celebratory and emotional!! Just letting myself feel everything 🙂
Agree, it’s such a special moment watching them learn a new skill like this…

My kids dozing in my aching arms during mass. My kids’ dirty knees when I’m doing their laundry, evidence of a good day. My tiny garden. My son learned to ride his bike this weekend too!! Such big heart eyes! We let him stay up late and watch a movie tonight too since his sister was in bed and it’s the start of spring break. He’s growing up!! Treasure Planet is still a great movie, btw.
My poor little girl though, man. She’s so frustrated she can’t keep up with him on her balance bike! My heart. I think I’ll bring her scooter next time.
“My kids’ dirty knees when I’m doing their laundry, evidence of a good day.” Amen. One of those welcome inconveniences. I feel this way (sometimes – ha) when I see the pile of shoes by our front and back doors. Crocs, dirty sneakers, muddy boots — just a mess of dirt and sludge — but they also make me so happy in a sense because these kids are living THE LIFE. Getting outside, getting dirty, digging through the mud. It’s so good 🙂

Just here to say that Amazon emailed to say that my hard copy of Small Wonders has been shipped!
EEEEK!!! Been getting messages like these the past few days and it’s making my heart do a somersault!!!
xx
I’ve long told myself “There’s only ever one first time” to psych me up for something that I’m convinced will be scary or awkward, as a reminder that the next time around I’ll know more about what to expect. I *love* your son’s “there will always be more tries” as a very wise companion reminder. ❤️
Liz! I LOVE this note. Such a powerful reframe! It reminds me of the concept of swapping out “I’m bad at this” for “I’m learning how to do this.” Powerful!!
