The Best Spring Base Layers.

By: Jen Shoop

I love an elevated basic — they add polish, definition, clever little details! And they just feel good on! Below, my favorite tees and tanks for spring.

POINTELLE TEE // TUCKERNUCK TEE // GOLDIE TEE // JCREW TEE // SCOOPNECK LONG SLEEVE // STRIPED TANK // KULE LONG SLEEVE // RIBBED TANK

01. I love the look of a razorback tank in white or stripe — perfect for spring layering, especially with a pair of simple white linen or gauze pair of pants.

02. This tee pairs fabulously with skirts. I love the burnout quality to it — and it’s a very thin material so it tucks well with no added volume, and I sort of love the friction between a polished skirt and a casual, linen-effect tee. Really impressed with this brand. They gave us a code — JEN15! (BTW, it is semi-sheet and calls for a nude bra — I still swear by this Eby relief bra! Insanely comfortable and invisible beneath shirts like this.)

03. These are just the best quality tanks. A really thick, structured cotton, and they look like a million bucks. I personally love that silhouette with a skirt or pair of shorts, but they have other options, too. I actually just ordered this new v style to try.

04. This Buck Mason pima tee (selling through in some sizes!) is a Magpie reader favorite, and with good reason. Exceptionally soft handfeel and holds up really well to repeat washings. It is on the shrunken/slightly cropped side, so do factor that in when planning wear. I really like this as a layer beneath athleisure when I don’t want the bulk of tucking something in, and also with high-waist denim. My sister (who is an expert in clothing sustainability) was just saying how obsessed she is with this brand because they spin all their own yarn, etc.!

05. If you’ve read this blog for awhile, you know this is my absolute favorite everyday tee — available in several colors and I think I own them all. A gorgeous, luxe cotton with a slight sheen; a fashion-forward shape. These look expensive (because they are, lol — but I just mean that these look very high-end, polished, have a perspective, etc.). J. Crew has a new style that looks somewhat similar here. I ordered the yellow to try and will report back.

06. I wrote about this earlier this week, but this is my favorite purchase from the Shopbop sale (which ends today! My favorite everyday picks from the sale here)! I’m loving the look of a colored tee this season, and cobalt has been popping up everywhere as a micro-trending color story. This tee is available in lots of great colors, though, over on the Leset site. This style runs a little boxier and reads a little more casual than the SoldOut one above since it’s a little more like a washed cotton — not as silky/soft as some of the others, but I like the look with jeans especially.

07. Sweet pointelle detail on this tee (upgrade pick: LESET pointelle tee — my favorite!). J. Crew Factory also has a good look for less in pretty spring colors.

08. White long sleeve — I love that little striped detail they have on all their tops!

09. Chic option for a boxy, cropped silhouette in a great spring color. This brand sent this tee to me in yellow and my daughter has stolen it! She loves this tee for some reason — I think it’s soft, has a kind of cool boxy shape, etc.

10. This striped long-sleeve has been SO POPULAR among Magpies. The best-seller across the board this week.

11. This striped tee is buttery soft and I love the swingy, slightly wider shape at the hem. More of a polished take on a tee.

12. DONNI lightweight tee.

13. Long-sleeve cotton tee — inexpensive but I love the fit of this when I am wearing a fuller skirt / barrel pant — really tidy and trim line.

14. The scalloping on this scoopneck tank is so sweet!

15. This tee is a heavy-duty cotton and comes in lots of fun colors.

16. Bracelet-length sleeves and chic scoop neck.
