Last week, we cleaned off the patio furniture and enjoyed several happy hours al fresco, the sun warming our faces! I already felt myself burrowing deep into my spring self. And I also found myself daydreaming about adding a couple of upgrades and additions to our back and front stoop situations, which led me to this fun round-up of chic outdoor finds just in time for spring:

Love everything about this post. THANK YOU, Have about 6 things sitting in various carts. Your timing is perfect. Those Portuguese house numbers! The pale blue square planters! The Cotton & Crete green wire server (would make such a fab outdoor or porch bar! ).The brass bee door knocker. The Williams Sonoma raised planter is 100% going to be my deck herb garden this summer. I want it all. And love the high/ low furniture options. Outdoor furniture is so crazy expensive. I keep looking for some good vintage options- any good sources?
Oh yay! I’m so glad you found some treasures. I love those house numbers so, so much.
Re: vintage. I might even check out Etsy?? You can find so much great stuff there…maybe other Magpies have better recs!

So our garden is a balcony one, ymmv, but it’s been such a fun activity for the kids! We got several planters and raised jardinières and so far we have radishes, carrots, peas, Thai basil, and sunflowers, with plans to add cucumbers, capucine, courgettes, arugula, lettuce, and cherry tomatoes, and a trellis of star jasmine. My son has been watching « Epic Gardening » on YouTube for tips, we got a little Potager encyclopedia, and I’ve been really enjoying their fascination with the dirt. I don’t really have much of a green thumb but I’m willing to give it a go. We’re doing several successive plantings so that means every weekend we’re planting something. I got a kit from Radis et Capucine meant for teaching a classroom. Does Mr Magpie have any tips on the lettuce?? We get only indirect sun on one balcony, and sun strong enough to scorch on the other.
We have rattan-ish Crate & Barrel furniture handed down from my MIL but the cushions are 15 years old, this is going to be the year I order new cushions.
Love the gardening updates! Keep going. One thing I’ve learned from watching my father-in-law (pretty much an expert gardener but all home-taught): you learn as you go. I admire his unfussiness about the whole thing. Just doing what makes sense, trying something else, etc. He’s a big reminder for me of the whole idea of not being too precious with things that…well, you don’t need to be precious with.
Writing about this is bringing Seamus Heaney to mind — that down-to-earth, almost tactile kind of poetry he gave us, all soil and squelch!
