  1. Bravo to you Jen for staying true to yourself. Your blog is something I look forward to every single day (particularly during these difficult times!) Thank you for creating such a lovely, beautifully written and thoughtful space! xo

  2. After reading fellow commenters’ responses, I have to say that I agree – it’s not my place to demand what you put into your creative outlet. I apologize – my comment came from a place of pain that was misdirected at a blog post. I respect the community you’ve created here and genuinely love your writing, which keeps me coming back. I’m sorry for the hurt/frustration that I may have caused with my comment. Thank you all for keeping me in check.

    1. Hi there! First, I appreciate your readership and your kind words about my writing — thank you. Second, we are living through extremely challenging times. I have told both myself and close friends countless times this year to “look for the things that fill your cup.” If that means I am not a part of your reading list right now, I get it. Take care of yourself, friend! These are really intense times. Finally, many years ago, I sat down and wrote out a set of principles to which I wanted to hold myself accountable on this blog, and at the top of that list was “a high level of civility.” This has led me to firmly and consistently avoid politics on this blog for nearly a decade, though I often feel as though I am writing with an elephant in the room. I appreciate that this decision may not appeal to some readers, but I have made peace with the fact that I cannot be all things to all people.

    2. Hi Anon,
I’ve seen this community provide wonderful support and encouragement to each other through all kinds of challenges– births, deaths, big moves, illnesses, difficult relationships, mistakes, triumphs– all with kindness and civility. It has been generously extended to me before, and I want extend the same to you in your grief. What a heavy thing to carry. I hear you, and to quote a Magpie-ism, I wish you kinder seas. It is rough out there!! I’m happy to be browsing sale snacks with you today and hope you found a moment of respite too 🙂

Jen- thanks for leading with compassion, as always xx

      1. Hi Katherine – Thank you for this beautiful note. I love that so many of you have built each other up, consoled one another, encouraged one another, etc in the comments section over the past many years. Thank you also for leading with compassion here. xx

  3. Thank you “K” for your comments. Couldn’t agree with you more!
Absolutely infuriating! And so wrong on so many levels!
    To “Annoynomous”…
Please take your toys and go play in another blog playground. This one is for mature adults who DO NOT shame people! BYE BYE….

  4. Seriously???? I DO NOT want one more comment of “Your vote counts” anymore! If you need that, do not come here. Turn on ABC, NBC or CBS and watch ad after ad!
Thank you for bringing joy, and upbeat happiness to our world with this blog! It is my favorite blog and it is always the first one I read for content, perspective and memories of past thoughts, people and events. It’s awe inspiring!I
Thank you Jennifer for your blog! Many of us are LONG time readers and LOVE it! Thank you for being true to yourself and going boldly forward everyday!

    1. Hi Cynthia – Thank you as always for your longtime readership and your encouragement. I know you are always rooting for me! xx

  5. The Fashion Magpie is my favorite place on the internet. I come here because I’m in awe of the way you write and how your essays leave me thinking for days after they’re posted. I look forward to reading other Magpies comments ( Hi MK!) and engaging with them.

There are plenty of places on the internet to read about and discuss politics and I’m glad this is not one of those spaces. You don’t need to tell us to vote. I already plan on doing so, in person!

    1. Oh my gosh – wow. I am so touched by these compliments and so happy to have you here. Thank you, Lauren 🙂 You made my weekend 🙂

  6. Hi – longtime reader, first time commenter! With the significant events of this week (the loss of RBG, the unjust ruling in the Breonna Taylor case), it has been hard to read blogs like yours that pivot towards sales and frivolity when so many of us are grieving. This spring, at the height of the BLM protests it was heartening to hear you and other bloggers promise to be a part of the change our world desperately needs. While I have appreciated that your blog images have become more inclusive, I still feel that your blog is somewhat gone-deaf to what many of us are experiencing on a daily basis (particularly for me as a POC woman reading your blog).
I respect that as a fashion/lifestyle blogger, you are not at all required to put in your two cents about the state of our nation. However, in this crucial (and frankly scary) time in our country, I feel it’s increasingly important for all of us to encourage civic engagement and voting. In my job as a healthcare worker, I ask patients every day – in a non partisan way – to make sure they are ready to vote this fall. I think readers would appreciate your encouragement about voting and hear your thoughts on the matter (which I’m sure you have!)
I hope that you can continue to acknowledge your privileges as a white woman with significant power as you make editorial decisions about your blog, particularly in this critical time. For some of your readers and their families, the results of this election truly mean life or death, and that can’t be overstated. Thank you.

    1. Jennifer, I truly hope you do not feel the need to apologize for your blog and the decisions you make regarding its content. This is not a political blog and I love it for that reason alone.

      @ Anynomous
“(…)it has been hard to read blogs like yours that pivot towards sales and frivolity when so many of us are grieving.” – you could consider to not read those blogs.

    2. I am echoing Liz’s comment above. Frankly, I have appreciated your posts of all varieties, which is why I keep reading because your writing beautifully encapsulates what many of us struggle to articulate well. I see absolutely no reason why you should be apologizing to readers who expect you to write about specific content within a certain time frame. While the above commenter certainly can hold her own opinion about your blog, why she feels like shaming you with the need to apologize or rewrite content to be inclusive of the topics she is passionate about is beyond me. Also if you felt inclined to discuss topics like voting or RBG’s passing perhaps that can be done within your time frame, not hers. This is your blog and your content. Absolutely infuriating.

    3. Hi again – Replied in full to your later comment. (Just noting here so you don’t think I’ve left you hanging!)
