What to Wear to a Wedding: Winter 2020.

By: Jen Shoop

*I’ve had this photo pinned to my Pinterest account forever and I wish I knew who made this dress because it is quite possibly the most beautiful item I’ve ever seen. Does anyone know?!

One of the most frequent questions I receive via email is — “What do I wear to a wedding with xyz constraints?” Below, a guide to my favorite finds for evening/special occasions. I’ll preface this by saying I have nowhere to wear this dress, but I need it. So that’d be high on my list — love the nude color and the fit is very me. Beyond that…

VINEYARD WEDDING PERFECTION

ABSOLUTELY SHOW-STOPPING IN FIRE ENGINE RED (MAJOR SPLURGE; BLACK TIE ONLY)

CAN’T GO WRONG WITH BLACK LACE ($75!!! — WOULD WORK FOR BLACK TIE!)

PRETTY FOR A BEACH WEDDING ($130!)

CONSERVATIVE BUT FEMININE (IN BLACK — WEAR WITH RED LIPS AND HIGH HEELS)

COURTHOUSE WEDDING SPECTATOR (GRACE KELLY VIBES)

PRETTY IN PINK

THIS $120 ICE BLUE DREAM

FASHION-FORWARD AND OSCAR-DE-LA-RENTA-ESQUE FOR $208

STUNNING BURGUNDY VELVET

DAYTIME GLAMOUR

IF YOU’RE EXPECTING

RETRO GLAM AND THE END ALL BE ALL

And if you’re renting the runway…

THIS SAUCY BUT CLASSY BLACK NUMBER

THIS FUN SALONI

BIG BOWS

UNEXPECTED STRIPE

P.S. Chic finds for a bride.

P.P.S. Pretty pink finds: this top for mini, these sweats for me (thanks Bradley for the tip), this statement dress, and these rain boots for a little one.

P.P.P.S. A love story.

  1. The Outnet always has the best selection of Ganni dresses! Keeping that knowledge in my back pocket for my next occasion…

Also, I would wear that Brock Collection to my OWN wedding, if I was having a city hall ceremony! Soooo chic.

    xx

  2. That gown in the image is by Ralph & Russo SS2019! So absolutely dreamy! I tried commenting yesterday, but I’m not sure if it ever went through.

Reading your posts is one of my favorite ways to ease into the day!

    1. Thank you so much for the kind compliment! So glad to have you here.

Sorry you had to post twice — if you are a first time commenter, I have to manually approve the comment and I am so behind on replying to comments. Grr! But thanks for pointing out the label 🙂 xx

  3. That pink gown at the top is from Ralph and Russo SS2019! It is so dreamy and romantic.

I also wanted to ask, would you happen to have any suggestions for low or kitten heels that work for dressy/cocktail/wedding guest attire? I absolutely love your choices and unfortunately do not have the skills to walk in high heels!.

    1. LOVE — thank you for the source of this stunning dress! Immediately looking that label up…

And yes — I absolutely love these by Alexandre Birman:

Conveniently on sale and go with everything! So chic. If you’re not into a thin heel, these Loeffler Randalls are fantastic:

  4. Oh my gosh that Emilia dress!! Gorgeous. I have a vintage dress in a similar gold, and I love it. The color instantly makes me upbeat and ready to party. Happy to see a modern designer using the shade!
