What to Wear to a Wedding: Summer 2019.

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive via email and direct message is — “What should I wear to a wedding with xyz dress code?!” (You can see a chain of my responses to this query across Magpie Mail posts over the past few months, including this one, this one, and this one.) Here, I thought I’d round up a few of my top picks, as I’ve given this question a lot of personal thought since I will be heading to a wedding in just over a month:

Evening Wedding Guest Dresses.

Most of these would work great for black tie or black tie optional:

  1. Hi! I know you’ve probably answered this question before but any recs for a baby shower dress? I like to avoid maternity dresses and buy normal dresses and “size up” but my 32 week bump is making this more difficult!
    Thanks
    Julia

    1. Hi Julia! Ugh, I hear you! Towards the end of pregnancy, it gets hard to work around the bump with non-maternity clothes. Have you looked at Hatch? They have some really chic maternity clothes, but are generally better for tall women I think. I’ve also had weird good luck with ChicWish for inexpensive shift/a-line pieces that have worked well with the bump…I feel better that they are so reasonably priced since I know I’ll wear them so rarely. This, for example, could look super cute, or the beads could look really tacky…but could be worth the gamble:

I’d pair them with higher end accessories to even everything out.

In general, a-line or shift dresses work well — something like this?

      Or this self-tie eyelet number?

Finally, not sure exactly how these fit (could be too tight in rib cage), but Hemant & Nandita has some really pretty silhouettes that would probably work well with a bump:
