Do you have a formula for everyday dressing? What does that look like in the fall?
I am a moody dresser, and I love to get dressed, but when I have a calendar page of empty space, I tend to follow the same equation: sitting jeans (versus jeans that are more standing-room-only) or utility pants, a cotton base layer (preferably pointelle in autumn), socks and clogs (I’ll swap out for a statement flat if heading outside), a statement sweater, and usually a vest/scarf/jacket to throw on over top because I’m always cold. The only other styling points I take into consideration: I usually try to wear at least one pattern (in the form of a sweater/jacket/scarf/shoes), but if I’m wearing solid colors, I tend to follow the three-color-rule. Have you heard about this? The hypothesis is that wearing only two colors does not offer enough visual contrast / can read boring.
Above, I’m wearing my favorite Mother jeans (great for petites), a chunky knit over a SoldOut tee, and these insanely comfortable leopard flats that I can’t stop raving about (use code JEN15). This is pretty much my go-to vibe.
My Favorite Everyday Pieces.
If you are a ShopMy person, I’ve created a new shelf to keep all my favorite things in one place here. These are the items I wear week-in, week-out, and reach for whenever clean.
Details on fit and feel, plus a few codes on these items below:
My favorite base layers are SoldOut NYC’s Iconically Soft tee and their shrunken tee (depending on look I’m going for — but these are the tees I wear about 90% of the time), Leset Margo (a little boxier/more cropped than Sold Out– this is my second string tee if SoldOut is in laundry), and pointelle from Marea (thicker), Leset (thinner but boxier), and J. Crew (most form-fitting). Use code MAGPIE15 at SoldOut!
The best less-expensive tees are Uniqlo (cropped/boxy, but a nice thick cotton with a great wide collar) and Buck Mason.
My favorite “sitting jeans” are Mother Half Pipes, Rag + Bone Sofie Featherweights (theeeee most comfortable), Rag + Bone Sofie Flexis. I find R+B runs on the larger side of TTS and Mother TTS. Use code JEN20 for 20% off at R+B.
My favorite utility pants are Velvet’s Brylies (TTS) and any of the Pistola ones – I own several, but I wear their bowed leg Sabrinas a lot. Use code JEN15 at Pistola!

Everyday Uniform Style Inspo.
These women are so chic, but the style feels attainable, simple, comfortable? Most of them are observing the three color rule but are otherwise keeping things really simple and easy. I typically dress with a little more pattern and color, but these are really calling my name —
