What I’d Wear, Vol. VI.

By: Jen Shoop

I’m back with this series! A few thoughts on what I’d wear to events coming up on my calendar, and/or on the calendars of girlfriends of mine, leading off with a blazer-focused outfit I wore this week to a meeting that would be perfect for a parent-teacher conference, a lecture, a casual Friday at the office, etc. I can’t get enough of this Veronica Beard blazer. It’s the most perfect chocolate plaid with a little hint of blue in it, and I love the long and lean lines. I paired with these Spanx cords, which are SUCH a good buy; the quality and fit are much higher-end than the price tag suggests. I am 5’0 and I took the petite inseam length but still needed a little heel height, so paired with these kitten heel boots. I find Spanx runs a tad small in general; I took my true size in these and the fit is flawless. All outfit details here. Styling note: I love the detail of layering a sweater around the shoulders of a blazer, like a scarf — I feel like it adds much needed texture and interest to an outfit that can otherwise look a touch boxy/masculine on me. Bonus: you can take off the blazer inside and just throw on the sweater if chilly (a little more comfortable for at-desk work, which is what I did while working in my studio later in the day) or layer beneath the blazer if you get really cold while out and about.

What to Wear: Outdoor Sports.

So many of my friends are entering end-of-season tournaments for their athletic children! I saw a mom wearing a textured sherpa puffer to soccer last weekend and thought she looked so chic (and warm) in it. Below, sharing a cord version, but I also love this less expensive Athleta in sherpa.

I also want to mention that your future self will thank you for ordering a pair of these boots now. I bought a pair last winter (this is the exact style I have; also love them in the new brown and in this “curly” variation) and wore them so, so much. They are warm and highly on-trend — I just watched a trend forecasting video this week that was spotlighting this style of boot. Last year, I wore them down to Raleigh and my girlfriend Inslee ordered them literally on the spot. Trust me, you’ll be thrilled with this practical but chic buy for winter. I think they look great with jeans.

What to Wear: Dinner with Girlfriends.

We are now entering the season of busy calendars and social gatherings! I love an easy look like the one below — comfortable, warm, but pulled-together. I wore a variation on this exact look this week to dinner with girlfriends and loved that it actually worked day-to-night.

Lil note that the Westman Atelier highlighter below, along with everything else Westman, is 20% off HERE! I noticed a ton of you picked up their incredible foundation stick (20% off this week only) on my rec, and you will not be disappointed. Basically anything Westman is gold.

Also, you’ll notice I use these Dorsey earrings, just recently made available again for preorder, twice in this post. I own them in gold and literally wear them every day (and night). They go with everything, are super lightweight, and add a little flash of sparkle to any look. Love.

AYR JACKET // LIU JO SWEATER // MOTHER HALF-PIPE JEANS // DOLCE VITA FLATS // BURBERRY BAG // WESTMAN ATELIER TINTED HIGHLIGHTER (20% OFF!!) // DORSEY EARRINGS

What to Wear: Volunteering at School.

Book drive, classroom parties, etc! This is perfectly polished comfort. I’m loving the idea of a boldly patterned vest over a simple monochrome outfit. The Etro one below is $$$$ but other chic options include this Farm Rio, this reversible Boden, this Loft (bandana print!!), this Barbour x Tuckernuck, this reversible Marie Oliver, and this Julia Amory.

What to Wear: Laufey in Concert!

I’m literally attending this concert in a few hours and cannot wait. Don’t we all adore her?!

Also: Loeffler just launched a surprise 30% off sale, and it includes these chic mesh leopard ballet flats. I find LR to consistently have the most comfortable out-of-the-box footwear, but it’s also always slightly ahead of the fashion curve. Just love the label. Shop the full sale here.

what to wear - music concert

SANDRO JACKET // DOEN TOP // DORSEY EARRINGS // KOSAS LIPSTICK (20% OFF) // PRADA PHONE SLING // LOEFFLER RANDALL FLATS (30% OFF AT CHECKOUT) // PISTOLA JEANS

What to Wear: Philanthropy Event.

A lot of important non-profit fundraising happening this time of year! A dream outfit below — just love the idea of layered knits as an unexpected skirt/top look. The drool-worthy set below is Lisa Yang, but I’ve seen lots of looks for less around — I especially love this chocolate brown duo from Mango, and while not inexpensive, Jenni Kayne has a beautiful pleated knit skirt that could be styled a zillion ways. I’ve also seen a few great knit combo dresses that achieve a similar vibe: this RL, this Banana, and this Anthro.

Another note: on my major lust list right now is a custom piece from Aurelia Demark (example below). I just find her pieces so elegant, heirloom-destined, an unusual. The watch, meanwhile, looks heirloom/Cartier but costs $165!

Last tidbit: the Loewe bag is dreamy, but there are lots of similarly-shaped, ultra-chic bags for less to contemplate: Cuyana, Quince, Tiffany + Fred, COS (smaller version here).

What to Wear: Dinner/Drinks at a Friend’s Home.

This is always a tricky setting to dress for — it feels weird to wear a heel, but jeans might not feel right either — especially with a new set of friends. (How formal will they be?! We’ve had new friends start with cocktails and served appetizers in a formal living room, and other friends who hang out in the kitchen or back patio, bare feet and open windows!). I feel like this outfit works in either direction. It’s slouchy and easy but also polished and elegant. Long live the Colby pant! (J. Crew’s Stratus pant is a great look for less.)

Side bar: how chic are these coupes?! Fun cocktail party gift. I also have a little guide to hostess gifts going live early next week but you can shop a preview here.

DORSEY PARACORD NECKLACE // REISS SWEATER // LA LIGNE COLBY PANT (LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // TOTEME T-LOCK CLUTCH // MANSUR GAVRIEL FLATS // FAZEEK COUPE GLASSES

P.S. The moon and her mother. I absolutely love this fable.

P.P.S. What are the happy corners in your neighborhood?

P.P.P.S. Last summer, my friend got a tattoo and it taught me something beautiful
