Weekend Trip Packing List.

By: Jen Shoop

I have a couple of short trips coming up this spring, and I was thinking about my strategic Magpies and wondering if you have formulas for packing for an overnight vs weekend vs longer trip? I feel confident you have some incredible tools and strategies for rightsizing the pack lists.

I put pen to paper (pecked this out on my Notes app) to streamline the packing for the upcoming lists — here’s what I’ve got…

What to Wear: Travel Day for a Weekend Trip.

Weekend Trip Packing List

RAG AND BONE 2-IN-1 JACKET // LA LIGNE CARDIGAN // WHITE TEE // COMFY BUT CHIC PANTS // EARRINGS THAT GO WITH EVERYTHING // CELINE PHONE SLING (VIBE FOR LESS) // CELINE SUNGLASSES // CARRY ON // KUJTEN SCARF // NOISE CANCELING HEADPHONES // RDV TOTE // M. GEMI SNEAKERS // TECH ORGANIZER

+Travel day outfit — comfortable but chic Ruti pants (do not wrinkle, can also be dressed up with heels and a blazer if you need them to work double duty), a polished tee, a sweater, comfortable shoes. Layers is the name of the game!

+Scarf or wrap — I’m always cold on the plane and adds interest; can also be repurposed for other outfits.

+Jacket (if seasonally appropriate) — always wear on the plane! Bonus points for this one, which comes with a removable liner so you get extra looks / mileage / versatility.

+Travel tote — I like this one because it’s very lightweight but has structure, fits under a plane seat, and I usually nest a smaller bag inside. This is a bit extra but I really love this Celine phone sling for travel — it’s ideal for travel day since you can keep your phone and ID on your person at all times, but also great for hotel (i.e., just running down a hall or to lobby bar and want just phone and key card, etc). This Rothy’s gets a similar vibe for much less.

+Rolling, cabin-size suitcase (if air travel) / duffel (if car)

+Noise canceling headphones.

+Tech pouch with charging cables and extra phone battery, and travel laundry bag — I really like to have a dedicated bag to toss my worn clothes so that when I get home, I just empty it all into the laundry bin / machine, and it’s separate from my clean clothes.

+Pre-loaded Kindle.

What to Pack: In My Suitcase for a Weekend Trip.

Weekend Trip Packing List

TWP SHIRT // CELINE CROSSBODY // WIGGY KIT DRESS // LIZZIE FORTUNATO NECKLACE // FLATS // MOTHER HALF PIPE JEANS // CADENCE CAPSULES // POINTELLE CARDIGAN AND CREWNECK SET // UNDERWEAR // SOCKS // PAJAMAS

+Accessories: earrings that go with everything, a statement necklace, statement earrings, sunnies. The statement jewelry is such an easy way to give an outfit character without taking up much space in a bag. I always pack a couple options.

+Jeans for exploring that go well with either sneaks or flats.

+Two tops — one casual, one dressier.

+Flats that work with either jeans or dress. These are probably my most-comfortable flats, and would work well with this pack list, but these designer ones are on my wish-list for spring. The Margaux ones really go with anything though! Classic!

+Dress — also own and adore this versatile one, which could be worn with sneakers, flats, or heels.

+Crossbody bag that can be worn for day or night — this is the one I’m currently borrowing!

+Pajamas, warm socks (my feet are always cold), extra underwear. (Weird recurring worry: I’ll run out of underwear; it comforts me to overpack this item?)

+Toiletries — slimmed-down version / just essentials, and always my hairbrush.

+Embarrassingly, I do bring my Dyson AirWrap with me — it’s one of those RWIs in my opinion, even if it takes up a good chunk of my carry-on.

Weekend Trip Outfit Ideas. (Styling What’s in the Suitcase.)

Here’s how I’d put together the outfits, plus a few bonus rearrangements if you end up wanting a different vibe for a different activity —

LEFT: SHIRT // JEANS // NECKLACE // CROSSBODY // FLATS

RIGHT: PHONE SLING // JEANS // TEE // JACKET // SNEAKERS // SUNNIES // PENDANT

LEFT: JENNYBIRD EARRINGS // WIGGY KIT DRESS // NECKLACE // CROSSBODY // FLATS // LIPSTICK

RIGHT: COMFY BUT CHIC PANTS // SNEAKERS // POINTELLE CARDIGAN AND CREWNECK SET // EARRINGS THAT GO WITH EVERYTHING // KUJTEN SCARF

LEFT: JEANS // CARDIGAN // NECKLACE // CROSSBODY // FLATS

RIGHT: SHIRT // COMFY BUT CHIC PANTS // JENNYBIRD EARRINGS // PHONE SLING // FLATS // PENDANT

Alternative Travel Day Outfits.

I really like the formula above because you can repurpose the pants and sweater in a few different ways, but an elevated set is also a good call if you have a longer plane / train situation. I love my cashmere knit set from Tuckernuck (wore this on flight to Italy last year), my Frank and Eileen Carmel set (wore to a spa trip with my mom), and, if you’re on the more casual side of things, I’m obsessed with my Citizens Miro sweat and sweatshirt (sweatshirt runs reallllly big FYI). Also think this set from Kilte is adorable, and my mom loves and looks so pulled together in her Spanx AirEssentials sets.

I enjoyed the magpie peloton ride this morning! It got me on the bike an extra day this week. Let’s do it again!

Aww thanks. It’s that eldest daughter/overachiever energy but on the bike, haha. I thought the crowd in studio was extra into it, which was fun 🙂
