The movie of summer 2026: After a big spring of new releases (Landon and I saw at least three movies in theaters and enjoyed them all!), I’m not really interested in anything coming out this summer. Am I missing something? So I’m putting my money on Sheep Detective, personally. Did anyone else see this? I was deeply charmed by it! I went in with ultra-low expectations but had the best time with my kids, and actually laughed out loud at the joke about religion (very clever). It had such a great 90s movie energy — slapstick comedy, talking animals, witty repartee. Think Outward Bound / Babe. Deeply enjoyed. It’s funny because Landon and I were talking about how there was this whole cadre of adult male actors in the 90s who played “the good, trustworthy dads” but weren’t exactly sex symbols / oversexualized — Rick Moranis, John Candy, Charles Grodin. Who are they now? We realized Hugh Jackman might be as close to target as it gets? Landon and I are also plumbing the archives by revisiting our list of “movies that feel like summer.“
The short of summer 2026: You know what it is.
The soundtrack of summer 2026: Zach Top, full-blast. Also digging the new Olivia Rodrigo!
The scent of summer 2026: Ripe farmstand fruit, basil, and veg (available in candle form, too: my favorites here and here) or petrichor (the semi-permanent smell of DC in the summer)
The book of summer 2026: Whistler by Ann Patchett
The shoe of summer 2026: Getting a lot of wear out of these this month (seem to elevate everything, and very comfortable IMO) but also anything jelly, and especially these (on sale for $100)
The hyperfixation meal of summer 2026: Chicken salad on rye
The go-to happy hour snack of summer 2026: Masa chips and the queso from Fish Taco
The drink of summer 2026: Oat latte with honey (!!! a new revelation for me — bonus points if they offer salted honey lattes) in the morning; pina coladas at the pool (I can’t not order one if on the menu)
The go-to accessory of summer 2026: Enormous sunhat
The mantra of summer 2026: How can I approach today with curiosity instead of expectation? Also: if it comes, let it; if it goes, let it.
Shopping Break.
Absolutely obsessed with this marigold pattern in the bestselling Cosmo pant! (Also in a cool dress format — the beaded straps are so interesting! — and chic scarf to tie around the waist, hair, wrist, bag!)
Only a few left of these ultra-cute gingham jeans. (More sizes here.)
Bestseller the past 24 hours — 25% off! My mom had one in her kitchen and the minute I stepped onto it, I ordered it on the spot. Makes washing dishes so much more pleasant on the feet, back, etc!
One of my favorite workout tanks in great summer colors.
Currently wearing these lightweight utility pants in the fun pink color. They’re already sold out at Pistola; a few left in stock here and here. A great look for less for the Leset Kyotos (which I also own) — extremely similar fit. I love a lightweight poplin utility pant for working in my studio in the summer!
Leset also just released a SHORTS version of their Kyoto pants that are intriguing me. (More colors here!).
Just ordered this for summer exfoliation. Between sweat, chlorine, sunscreen, I needed a little extra boost. Have you tried this brand? It’s incredible — really thoughtfully-constructed, packed with great ingredients, and all of it smells divine. This moisturizing duo (body balm and oil) is their bestselling SKU and I own and love the oil — super lightweight! — but am now intrigued by the balm. That undaria algae ingredient is clinically proven to firm and hydrate skin.
Another top Father’s Day pick if you’re scrambling and looking for something aside from the terry polo so many of us ordered. I ordered this for Landon too! Another good idea: the Fellow matcha set. Landon and I both love this for an afternoon pick me up!
How CUTE is this bow-shouldered dress?! Gah!
Love this top with white jeans.
It took all of my reserve not to buy every single thing from Zara children’s collab with Penn (tennis). The vibe is SO GOOD. Retro perfection. I got a couple of the tees for my son! (Like how cool is the back of this tee?!). Perfect for pairing with Cadets cardio shorts (he’s wearing these daily this summer! I just added the dark red to his collection). While at Zara, I picked up these cute shorts sets in a few colors for my daughter. I’m always looking for easy, slightly-athletic-leaning sets for her.
While we’re talking cute kids finds: this fish print dress and these ric rac trim shorts! These limited edition lacrosse shorts!
