Statement Sweatshirts for Little Ones.

Perhaps the most niche post I’ve ever worked on, but hey! We’re living in the age of athleisure, even for littles, and I’ll admit I just spent an afternoon (!) going down deep rabbit holes looking for statement sweatshirts for my children as we ease through the current cold snap. A lot of the children at mini’s school rock a downtown-trendy-cool vibe and I am specifically drawn to some of the trendy statement sweatshirts I’ve seen them wear from quirky European brands like Bobo Choses (this lion!) and The Animals Observatory (this dog!). Below, a range of options at all pricepoints, and for a range of styles, from the feminine to the nautical to the whimsical…

  1. Is it weird that I want some of these sweatshirts for myself?

I’ve noticed that you put quite a bit of effort into styling your children and I’m curious if you were raised by a fashion-conscious mother yourself. It has been interesting to see how old friends of mine, some of which were highly decorated children and some of which were borderline feral (that’s an exaggeration but you know what I mean) have approached their own personal style as adults and in turn, approached dressing their young children. While I noticed that some have carried on the habits in which they were raised, others rebelled and felt determined to do the opposite for themselves and/or the next generation.

    1. Not weird – I also want some of these sweatshirts myself…too cute.

Such an intriguing question about what we learn from our parents in this category. My mother was very attentive to our presentation. My hair was always brushed, frilly socks and cardigan matching, barrettes in place, etc. We always dressed up for Church and going to their country club. She was big on collared shirts in general – if memory serves, we weren’t allowed to wear t-shirts to the dining room table (!) which…I so admire but truth be told there are some days when we can’t get mini to wear her pants to the dining room table. HA! She would not approve. (I’m sure she will read this and nod.) At any rate, I do think I have inherited her tendency towards formality, coordination, crisply ironed clothing, etc. I’ll have to ask her what she remembers about all this. Now that I think about it, I’m astounded she was able to get five children out the door on any occasion, but especially dressed up to go to church every Sunday. Superwoman.

      xx
