This Julia Amory top and skirt arrived and je suis obsessed. A strong contender for Thanksgiving dinner, and I love that the pieces can be worn separately in a thousand ways, too. I styled the top with jeans and with cords, and also already want to pair the skirt with a flat and my bright red La Ligne sweater. Great buy. You can get 15% off the set with code JEN-15. (I styled with these boots above.)

  1. Love all of your picks and have to say (though I think I have said this in different ways in other comments) but you are inspiring in how thoughtfully you dress yourself and take care of yourself! This morning I walked my daughter to the bus stop in my husband’s sweatshirt and she asked why I was wearing boy clothes πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Separately, coming to you (and the magpie hive!) for ideas on 5-6-7 year old play – similar to this amazing and heavily referenced list from COVID days https://magpiebyjenshoop.com/a-roundup-of-indoor-toddler-activities/, would love to hear thoughts on how we play at this age group. The weekends are sometimes very long days and have tried to schedule some time a week to plan for activities/ideas but often come up empty for free play/creative things other than the the target mondo llama kits.

    1. Thank you so much, Rayna!

Such a great prompt. Can’t wait to hear what Magpies share! We play a lot of games (Uno, Jenga, Go Fish, etc), do a lot of drawing, and try to get them outside as much as possible. Will think about some of the more structured stuff we do, too, and share back as they occur to me!

      xx

    2. My mom did a lot of Perler beads with us! I remember my brother making tons of friendship bracelets out of yarn. We had tons of those Klutz kits and were always learning cat’s cradle, making things out of cardboard, sewing. We were a card game family rather than board games but my brothers and I played spoons and blackjack endlessly. A lot of things we made were gifts, like apple butter or mint snowmen (you made a playdough-ish dough from powdered sugar). Delivering little presents to our friends was always part of fall and winter. Legos of course. Lots of collages. We also had a super messy house, but we had free rein of all the craft supplies and so always had some project going.

      1. Love those Klutz books! My daughter (7) has been into making friendship bracelets using one of them. Some of the techniques are too tricky but the basic ones are just right for her and she loves making them for herself and her friends. Actually, our sweet 16 year old neighbor wears one my daughter made her daily!

And yes to arts and crafts. I have a few big tubs with lots of things – popsicle sticks, feathers, googly eyes, glitter, etc – and every now and then I’ll pull them down and the kids will work on projects for hours.

They also LOVE doing science projects with Landon — he has a book with kids experiments and will do one or two each month.

        xx

        1. Love this! Just ordered Perler beads, a giant craft kit and am checking out the Klutz books! Could you share the science book? That sounds right up my alley!

  2. Any dresses more thanksgiving level formal that would work for a 7 month bump? Doing my shower right before thanksgiving!
